Or, the takeaway could be that the Red Sox unloaded their really bad contracts, refused to overpay for FA last year and thought that winning was more important than making sure that somebody like Jacoby Ellsbury was a Red Sox for life, so they have more flexibility to take a chance on someone like Mujica.
