Well, maybe going on Twitter on the day that one of the most beloved coaches in Philly sports history got fired... maybe that's not such a good idea?

Could they sign both McCann and Chooch, if Chooch would come back on a cheap 2-3-year deal? McCann could then maybe play some 1B (can he play 1b?) for Howard against tougher lefties. He's not great against lefties, but he's better than Howard. Might help his longevity and get his bat in more games. Chooch would play more than the usual backup and might be willing to do a cheap deal to stay in Philly and make good on the whole suspension thing. The rest of the money would go to the bullpen per Ruben's suggestion.

Chooch turns 35 in January, and blows goats. A 1 year deal is probably a mistake, and a 2-3 deal would make me go apeshit, yet again.

Perhaps just this once we could let one of our older heroes move on without having to watch the death-spiral at the end of their career.

If you pair John Mayberry with Ryan Howard in a STRICT platoon, you'll have a 3 win 1b.

I'd have said Ruf but I think we'll want to give him right/left field.

But I like spirals.

I actually thought he was a bit younger, tbh. Still, if he would come back cheap on a short deal, I would consider it. He'd basically be a backup with a few extra starts in there to give McCann some starts at 1B. Catcher is a pretty weak position around the league. He's decent defensively, knows our pitchers, and hasn't been that bad (above league average) after his slow start coming off the suspension. His power does appear to be gone, however, so it's not like I don't have some concerns. But I think he would definitely be above league average compared to other backups around the league. I'm talking an inexpensive deal.

I'd be fine giving ABs to Mayberry at 1B. Howard should never start against lefties.

I'm just trying to McCann off his knees as much as possible while keeping his stick in the lineup.

There are way better cheap right handers who can play 1b than JMJ.

Ruben Amaro would actually need to identify them. We'll re-sign Michael Young.

That doesn't feel like a correct statement.

linky This pulls every righty's OPS against lefties since 2010. Who's cheaper and better and available? Gaby Sanchez? Chris Denorfia?

We should get Youklis. He's real good.

Ruiz is good vs. lefties. He and McCann for a year?

Rupp will be ready after that.

At some point you have to ask yourself what bringing back, essentially, the same team accomplishes?

Individually I can talk myself into basically any of the relievers, Kendrick, Halladay, Ruiz, Mayberry, Revere, etc. But at some point we have to move on. If you agree to say goodbye to Chooch, i'll say goodbye to Mayberry. It will be therapeutic.

I want no part of Mayberry in 2014. Trade him to Japan.

Mayberry is a good back up OF. The problem is that he has been forced to play way more than he should be.

Why do I keep seeing the words "youth movement" and Darin Ruf in the same sentence. Ruf is 27 years old. Delmon Young is 27 years old.
