they'll cruise through the regular season, but they better have this figured out by the playoffs or it'll end in disappointment

maybe, they have plenty of guys better than Valverde. they could make a change there that doesn't involve giving up a king's ransom for Papelbon
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

Illitch wants that ring before he's dead. Castellanos and the rights to miggy's first two born.

An old timer manager like Leyland is most likely most comfortable with an elite closer. The Tigers are a real good club and adding Papelbon could make them the best team in MLB in theory.

I'd love to get a guy like Castelanos. Even cooler would be to add some guy. -- Adams? M. young? Mayberry? Who knows? And maybe get their other OF prospect Avisail Garcia. He has actually played in the bigs and has hit pretty well in a SSS. He's very good defensively as well. A big athletic type who may or may have a hit tool or power tool. (Scouts apparently disagree a lot about him).

We got hosed in the last Garcia deal so we are owed one I believe.

The one good thing about our Phils this season is they can trade almost anyone without too much fear. I hope they don't ever trade Rollins or probably Utley. But anyone else?

i never want to "sell" before we're mathematically eliminated, but i wouldn't object to losing papelbone

They're 10th in the NL and 8.5 out of both the div & the WC. It's over.

You should see the 2013 version of him; he's going to give Leyland lung cancer. Every time Valverde is called into a game, Jimbo probably has to light one up to calm his nerves.

I would absolutely trade Papelbon for Castellanos and not think twice about it.

So is anyone else disappointed that we have had one of the highest payrolls in baseball for the last 2 years and we've sucked for both of them? Thanks Rube!

Keeerect.

But that doesn't mean they can't trade a guy like Papelbon. As I think you said earlier. I don't think they actually would fire sale. They could trade a few guys without hurting the team and pick up some younger/youngish guys. Trade M. Young and bring up Asche at some point. Add some reliefers and back up catchers and maybe a batt.

I wonder if that was the thought behind the Delmon Young sign. It was possible he would have a hot streak at some point and they could dump him off to AL for a semi-prospect like they did with Thome last year.

Oh well.

Pretty good article by High Cheese. Does everything but call Amaro a complete moron who shits himself on purpose. I approve.
