To be fair to Rollins that play is made 99.5 percent of the time.

He also got to second anyways. Didn't work out but maybe it was his plan to be a distraction at first. That can be really annoying to a pitcher.

It doesn't matter what we or the media think of Rollins. As long as Charlie thinks he's not hustling, it's a problem.

I cannot be bothered to give the quickest most unsatisfying fuck about whether or not Charlie dresses down Rollins in the clubhouse or dugout though

That play was inconsequential to the outcome of today's game. The team sucks, JRoll is just keeping it real. He's not the only one going through the motions, I don't give two shits about how hard he ran to first, the bigger problem was the weak pop up in that situation. Just one of those years, but I'll ride with Jimmy on this one.

Yeah, I'm mildly pissed about the lack of hustle, but really that's Charlie's place. What I'm pissed about is the fucking 18.9% IFFB%. That's absurd. Third-worst in the majors behind Uggla (19.0%) and Desmond Jennings (19.3%).

It sucks, but it's probably worth noting that he has a .714 OPS at a position where the league is hitting .689.

I like Jimmy Rollins and feel he's still one of the better shortstops in major league baseball.

While it's ok to regulate your effort some in order to protect against injury, one should always run down to first strongly enough on a pop up or grounder in order that one has a good chance to reach base if the ball isn't handled cleanly.

I'm able to hold these two thoughts in my head at the same time because I have a truly massive brain.

Well I didn't see the play, but I want to make sure people aren't expecting hustle to the point of stupidity. /myweakdefense

on a play like that, you have to make sure to get to first, sure, but can't get caught in no-man's land and run into an out if the ball drops near a player. So, get to first, turn and watch.

So what have we learned in August, as far as usable info for next year?

--Kratz and Frandsen are more than serviceable backups who probably represent value at the league minimum
--Kendrick really is okay as the fifth starter and might even be usable as the fourth
--Brown has a broad skill set, still isn't a finished product, and is always likely to get hurt a lot
--Horst should have a spot in next year's bullpen; everyone else among the young 'uns still must prove themselves
--Doc and Lee are likely to remain effective, if not full-on face-breaker, through 2013

About Kendrick: his K/9 this season is now up to 6.4. Best he'd ever previously done in a full-ish season was 4.6, last year. Last year he had fluky-low BABIP of .265; this year it's .292. I still sort of want to smash his face with a brick, but it's time to face the reality that he is, or can be, a pretty effective pitcher.

Questions for September have to be around Brown and Schierholtz, the relievers, and I guess Cloyd. And whether Ruf can rise at least to a Luzinskian level in left field.

Will they even give Ruf a chance in LF?
