Okay, after watching these highlights (most from 2011), he's definitely not running quite as well this season, but a lot of it still seems like it's his long stride.

It's gotta be that he's hurting. The footage definitely shows him faster than today. Dude also needs to learn how to slide!

buster olney and keith law ranked the phillies as the 22nd best org in baseball moving forward. 4th in the nl east.

The Overview

The organization's long-term and short-term plans can be defined in two words: Win now. The Phillies paid top-of-the-market dollars to Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels, and now they owe about $93 million to those three players and Roy Halladay. The credit card bills are coming due. -- Buster Olney

The Dilemma

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro became a seller at the trade deadline for the first time in his career, as he successfully dealt Shane Victorino to the Dodgers and Hunter Pence to the Giants while stockpiling inexpensive, controllable talent in return. This is a franchise that needed retooling, not rebuilding. Improving the bullpen depth and getting younger in the field without having to trade Halladay or Lee will be Amaro's biggest challenge.-- Jim Bowden

The System

Repeated losses of first-round picks for signing free agents and relatively meager signing budgets in the draft and internationally have led to the decline over the past few years of this system, which has also suffered this year from steps backward from starters Trevor May and Brody Colvin.-- Keith Law

I'm not giving them the page views, but are we seriously behind one of the Mets/Marlins?

Would be a solid move IMO given their lack of a hard science background

Didn't you guys laugh at them last time and then here we are finishing around 4th?

I think there needs to be a little more anger at our GM and team and a little less scoffing at the media.

Too conservative. Position player depth is really pretty good right now outside of outfielders (and maybe 1B).

1B-Ruf, Serritella, maybe LGreene
2B-Hernandez, Pullin, maybe TGreene
SS-Galvis, Quinn
3B-Asche, Franco, Walding, ZGreen
C-Valle, Joseph, Rupp, Lino
OF-Gillies, Castro, James??/Myers??, Collier, Altherr, Dugan, LGreene

Starting pitching is good at the top of the minor league system. The Martin acquisition helps a lot, as does Morgan's solid year and move to AA.

Relief pitching is a strength, especially in AA/AAA.

Some of these guys will take the step forward next year to the top 100.

I think this system is pretty darn solid right now. I'd put them at least in the middle of the pack.

there's so much info out there that is readily available that these national writers are obsolete. if you're a diehard fan, you don't need keith law to tell you shit about baseball. you can look at every stat online, watch clips of most players online and reach your own conclusion about how good you think a player is/isn't or will/won't be. law is some sort of foodie now and hardly, if ever, comes east to see prospects anyway. he's too busy getting trolled by darin ruf questions #AAby26 to offer anyting relevant about the phillies minor leagues.

I thought a former NCAA Div I WR prospect would be faster. On the play the other night where he slid head first into home, I watched him lumber around the bases. He has baserunning issues as he takes enormous turns around the bags (especially 3rd) but he just seemed slow.

I still love me sum Dom but what's the deal?

Definitely something wrong with his leg. He's limping.

Meh, so much of that is shaded due to the big league team's performance that I'm not concerned. If the Phils' middle relief crapped the bed three fewer times this season and the Phils BABIP into a couple more wins for CLIFF LEE, and they're competing for the second WC spot. People would be talking about how the Phils have survived their devestating injuries to start the year and are now shifting into their usual Aug/September Beast Mode.

Instead, the story is that they're old and getting older. Whatever. Fix the bullpen, Rubes.
