He wasn't that good of a player but he had some power. He hit only .219 for Modesto and struck out 94 times in 274 at bats. His biggest problem was a bad back. He had surgery in 1964 and sat out 1965. He hung on until 1969 but never got close to the majors again. He did have the greatest one game career in MLB history though.
The Astros played a lot of really young guys at the end of the 1963 season. In fact, they started the famous All-Rookie team three days before season's end vs. the Mets. The average age of the team was 19 years, 4 months. Included in that starting lineup were:
Aaron Pointer went back to the minors and later became an NFL head linesman, and later, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Tacoma, Wash. His sisters Ruth, Anita, Bonnie, and June are better known today as the pop group The Pointer Sisters.
Jay Dahl went back to the minors, but was killed in a 1965 car accident in North Carolina at the age of 19.
Joe Morgan went on to a Hall-of-Fame career with the Cincinnati Reds, and is now a commentator on ESPN.
Jim Wynn, Rusty Staub and Jerry Grote were also in the starting lineup. 15 rookies played that day but Paciorek wasn't one of them. He played on the last day of the season.
