Definitely not great news for Ryan, but, that said, this isn't the Ryan Howard fiasco all over again
Shane Victorino told reporters Thursday that locking him up would require a five-year contract.
"I’d like five years, yeah," said the 31-year-old outfielder. "Why wouldn’t I? I signed for three. Why wouldn’t I want the next one to be longer? My agents say I can get a five-year deal on the market. Why not trust them?" Victorino is currently scheduled to become a free agent after the 2012 season. He batted .279/.355/.491 with 17 homers, 19 steals and 16 triples in 132 games last year.

“..I’m willing to give up free agency. A lot of guys won’t. In the game of baseball, free agency is what every major league player dreams of. You want to maximize your value, and of course I do, too. But what’s important to me is, I want to be here. I love playing here. My family loves the city. I love the city. So when I made that statement, that’s what I meant.”
