Zumaya will have his tom john surgery on March 29th. And be released before ST. For his troubles, he is guaranteed $400K of his $850K contract. For throwing 13 pitches in a ST bullpen session. Amazing.

And how much does Ryan Howard get for parking his tuchus on the bench for at least a couple of months?

This article about the relocation of the A's to San Jose and why it won't happen talks about why the Mets, Yankees and Phillies would never vote for it because it may open up the Tampa Bay Rays moving to New Jersey and none of those 3 clubs wants that to happen. Also, it includes a link to the Major League Constitution which defines th eoperating areas of each franchise.

Fascinating stuff in here.

I think the idea that Northern NJ is the best untapped market is untrue. Yankee fans aren't abandoning the Yankees to root for the NJ As. So, really looking at frustrated Met fans as your potential fan base. But given the Mets financial issues, it seems rather likely that most everyone in baseball has an interest in not doing anything that would further damage that franchise. I don't think MLB wants to drive another team into bankruptcy if it can be avoided.

I wonder where two new teams could realistically be added.

San Antonio is one that always comes up, and makes some sense I guess. The RTP area has close to 2 million people, and no pro team anywhere close, so they might be a decent bet, especially with the growth increase in that area. Plus its a major business hub, so I'd imagine corporate entities would be pretty enticing. Portland Oregon is in or close to the top 25 larges metro areas in the US. Las Vegas? The Hampton Roads area has about 1.7M people.

I think Portland is the biggest metro area without a team. I dunno how popular their minor league team is.

MLBN has the D'Back-Indian game with minimal announcer guy jibber jabber. Instead, many players managers, coaches and umps are miked up live. Mostly you hear gibberish but it's kinda nice not having a play-by-play and color guy droning on all game.

Cahill got rocked -- two homers and three runs in the first.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can
