The Nightman Cometh wrote:Could the Japanese or Korean leagues do anything if the MLB does unilaterally apply a draft to amateur players? I guess I'm not seeing how much harm they could do in return. Keep MLB from scouting and bidding for their players? The need for that would be nonexistent if we were drafting their premiere talent anyway.

The O's saga set off some angst and anger that the KBO has had building up for years. Now they are hoping that Taiwan and Japan join in on making a rule about the scouting practices. Not sure what sort of rule they'll come up with, but I'm thinking it will be an age limit.

South Korea is seeking a trilateral meeting with Japan and Taiwan to discuss their response to Major League Baseball (MLB) teams' signing of young Asian talent, officials said Monday.

Lee Sang-hyun, the secretary general of the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA), met with Japanese and Taiwanese representatives in Tokyo last Thursday, on the sidelines of the BFA's executive committee meeting, the BFA said. The three officials discussed forming a trilateral body in the near future to counter what they believe is indiscriminate scouting of Asian prospects by MLB teams.

Here's an American living in Korea talking about KBO FA rules.

There has to be a balance between fairness to players and protecting the leagues from losing their best players to America somehow.

Somehow basketball and soccer do it.

Yeah, he's a friend of mine (helped provide him some of the info for that piece) and glad that he wrote it and it got printed there.

While MLB is far from perfect, KBO sometimes can be a bit shortsighted at times...within the current system between KBO/MLB, the KBO is at it's all-time high in popularity, all their former MLB stars are back in the league and in the overall picture, not that many prospects have been signed in Korea recently and there's an argument to be said that fans in Korea take great pride in seeing one of their own play in MLB.

As of the other week, KBO is hoping to change their agreement w/ MLB which would force kids to play pro ball (in Korea) before being able to sign w/ MLB teams (can't become a free-agent in KBO until after 8 seasons for high school grads and 9 seasons for everyone else...) But maybe they'll change their thinking a bit after talking w/ Japan/Taiwan....or not.

Reds apparently weren't satisfied with stealing Madson on a great deal, because they just signed reliever Sean Marshall through 2015 with a 3/$16.5 extension

The "Mendoza" line is actually .215, but changed to .200 for conveniences' sake, much like Washington's birthday always falling on a Monday

Brett Myers now the Astros closer.
This is a simple game. You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball.

Most contending teams will probably value a dominant relief arm at the deadline more than a solid-but-erratic starter.

They just need to hope that Myers will be, you know, dominant in the 'pen. If he's not, have they lost much?

So their rotation is now Wandy/Livan/Duke/Happ/Norris, with their 6th starter being Jordan Lyles, Lucas Harrell, Henry Sosa or Kyle Weiland. Be afraid

They'll still win at least two-thirds of their games against the Phillies.
