yeah arencibia won't block d'arnaud, who is much better defensively. he's the only prospect i regret them trading. i'd give the jays whatever they wanted to get him back.

yes

No, Drabek was absolutely the centerpiece of that trade.

He was publicly but he's a smallish power pitcher with serious injury/maturity concerns at the time of the trade, D'Arnaud was a guy who was already looking like a stud defensively

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I guess you could say that's a bit of hindsight, but I have a hard time believing Drabek was really THE guy the Jays wanted

this is incorrect

Drabek was by and far the most coveted of our prospects at that time other than brown. taylor rounded out our "big 3" at the time.

I misremember things a lot...I do remember hyping D'Arnaud up a lot to other people IRL though

D'arnaud was not the centrepiece of the deal, it was Drabek, the Jays had major hardons for Drabek from the moment we started inquiring about Doc. It was our refusal to lose Drabek the first time that snagged us Lee by making the first Doc deal impossible at that time.

Not wanting to give up Drabek killed the deal the previous midseason (when we got Lee instead) and it held up the deal in the winter. Drabek was absolutely the key to the deal.

Jays were pro-Drabek
