Speaking of Cole, he did a really nice interview on Cataldi's show this morning, mostly to plug his charity work. Dude seemed very nice, and also had a surprisingly sharp sense of humor. Cataldi asked him one leading question in which he suggested that perhaps Cole might challenge Doc for the title of "#1 starter," and Cole nicely deferred to Doc and his career's worth of accomplishments, so Cataldi came back at him with this:

"Well, you are a better hitter than Halladay, you can't deny that."

To which Cole replied:

"I know, and I'm not."
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."

Gelb's article about the pitchers' competitiveness over their hitting was good

Phillies right-hander Joe Blanton played catch with head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan in shallow right field before Sunday afternoon's game against the Cubs, his first throwing session since returning to the disabled list. The two spread apart as far as 60 feet, and Blanton said he felt good after the session. Beyond that, he does not know when he may toss a bullpen session or when he'll throw next.

Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Indians prospect right-hander Jason Knapp underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday.
The surgery was performed by Dr. David Altchek. Indians VP of player development Ross Atkins said the procedure was done to to "stabilize and tighten the anterior aspect of the shoulder." The Indians are hoping that he will be ready for the start of the 2012 season. Knapp, 20, was one of the key pieces from the Cliff Lee deal in 2009.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Knapp was such a great draft/development score. People hated his delivery out of high school so he fell. We stayed on him and signed him for slot in sammich round (I think 750K?). We kept him together and touched him up a bit and got the hype machine going with reports of 97 in the 7th inning. Then sent him packing right as he was disintegrating

We're 6 games better than last year's team through 67 games

In case you missed it, we had the best record in baseball at the end of last season
