2011 Random Phillies Stuff V: The Umpires Strike Back

Someone told me it was on TV last night that Howard is the active MLB leader in go-ahead RBI. Is that true?

Since 2005 is what the graphic said.

Career-wise, I doubt he's ahead of Pujols or ARod

I guess that Cameron cat who is so popular here updated his organization ratings at some point. Oh wow, it was actually done by some other guy. (Joe Pawlikowski). I don't remember if it was brought up here so I thought this was interesting:

Phils are now #3 org. (Seattle is #17 btw).

In some ways it might seem as though the Phillies have extended themselves a bit too far. We’ve heard all winter that the team has little to no money for mid-season improvements, which is an important factor for a contender. The Phillies know this well, as they’ve added important chips at the last two trade deadlines. But even with their injuries they’re still the favorites in the NL East, and perhaps in the entire NL. Their commitments going forward are great, but so is their revenue potential. With a capable man at the helm, the Phillies are deserving of their title as No. 1 National League organization.

Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

When he moved to the front office, I never in my wildest dreams thought Rube would be seen, either locally or nationally, as a great GM. There are times when it is ever so good to be wrong.

Jason Knapp has made 13 appearances for the Indians since being the center piece of the original Lee deal.

Carrasco has a 78 ERA+ in 23 GS. Lou Marson and Jason Donald have added up to 2.1 WAR over 3 seasons.

Ruben is good. So fucking good.

A funny part about the Lee trade is I remember someone, possibly a Stark column, writing about some other GM saying (after we failed to trade for Halladay) "If they want to trade for Lee, it's going to cost them just as much as Toronto wanted for Halladay."

Then we traded a bunch of garbage for him.

If you compare WAR for 2009-2011, the phillies have netted 0.2 WAR over that span (going by BR numbers). Add in to that the way Aumont has been wrecking people and the fact that Gillies still has a shot and it's unbelievable the way the Indians got absolutely butt mugged in that deal.

Consider what Seattle got from Texas (Smoak alone is more) or that the Yankees were offering Montero and well, yeah. Cleveland :ce:

So, since it's friday and I don't want to do anything at work today I decided to look up CFers with a high BB% in the majors currently to see how they did in the minors. So the splits are Majors/Minors BB%

Rasmus 10.2%/11.2%
McCutchen 11.2%/9.9%
Fowler 12.0%/12.0%
BJ Upton 11.3%/13%

So, the odds are pretty high that Gillies would maintain his good OBP skills in the majors correct?

Umm...reverse the search to find CFs with high BB% in the minors and see how they did in the majors?

even for my level of work avoidance, that's a lot more involved. Fangraphs isn't searchable across all leagues in the minors.

It's a shame Amaro couldn't have at least gotten something from Seattle for Lee. It's actually laughable that the Mariners got more for Lee for half of season than we did for him for an entire season.

With that said, I'm still optimistic that Aumont will at some point help the Phillies in the bullpen. Ramirez certainly has the right attitude but his stuff is pretty mediocre and Gillies, well, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
