Also very true. If the Phils pick up a helpful right handed bat, they could win 108.

I'm sure his .416 BABIP is sustainable.

Whenever he would be brought up to the big club in Seattle, he'd hit really good for a while -- then he'd stink. With the Phils, he was used perfectly, was hot in early 2008 and he was able to finish with good numbers.

Most likely he will follow his pattern and regress to the Kendrick in due course.

He's only had 3 PAs vs. lefties this season and only 81 vs. lefties in 1303 total PAs. That's a pretty severe platoon right there by golly.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Saw the 1984 Padres-Braves brawl on MLB network today on TOP 50 MOST INFAMOUS ARGUMENTS program. I have no previous memory of this game for some reason but I have to say it is the most crazy thing I have ever seen on a baseball field. For some reason it was not number 2 (Pedro throwing down Zimmer in the 2003 ALCS should have been number 1. Oh, What was number one!? It was an iconic baseball moment!

yep. I mean it was pretty funny good but I would say it was overexposed as opposed to iconic..not on the same level of mayhem as the Padres-Braves or Sox-Yanks brouhaha. They also threw an Earl Weaver argument into the top 3 although I wasn't too impressed with it.

I love old baseball footage, particularly from the 1980s, and I feel like I am fairly knowledgable regarding baseball's history - and I had never seen or heard of ANY of this until just now. But holy shit, that is some awesome footage.

It's amazing how many times you could throw at people back then before getting tossed.

Looking for this video cause me to find this gem from the Phillies, in 1999:

Here.

The undoubted highlight is at the 0:55 mark, John Rocker's prancing run into the middle of the scrum.

This is fun. A 1989 Phillies-Mets dust up, from the last home game for the Mets that year (the Phillies won!):

I finally figured out the correct format for the command, but when I tried it I still got nothing. I quoted your post here to see what you did, and I swear to you, trying that got me nowhere.

Step 1: Get the YouTube URL for your video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkOB5ZycFIE

Step 2: Erase everything up to and including the ?v=

Step 3: Place the remaining text between the bracketed youtube and /youtube tags (easily achieved by highlighting the remaining URL and clicking the youtube button)

Step 4: Obligatory underpants gnome reference... PROFIT!

I tried that, I swear it didn't work.

On an unrelated note, for some reason this morning I was thinking about the "old" NL East (the 1969-1993 NL East) and who won it the most often. So, here's the count:

1969-1993:

Pittsburgh - 9 division crowns (1970-1972, 1974-1975, 1979, 1990-1992; however, only team not to win one in the 1980s)
Philadelphia - 6 division crowns (1976-1978, 1980, 1983, 1993)
New York - 4 division crowns (1969, 1973, 1986, 1988)
St. Louis - 3 division crowns (1982, 1985, 1987)
Chicago - 2 division crowns (1984, 1989)
Montreal - 1 division crown (1981)
Florida - only played in the division one year, 1993

Just sort of amazing how good the Pirates used to be. Although, I suppose, for all those division titles, they were snakebit even then: only got 2 World Series appearances out of them (won them both, however).

Phils v. Pirates meant war in the late 70s, early 80s - Ed Ott - Bruce Kison - Mike Schmidt brawl ftw.
