yep. I mean it was pretty funny good but I would say it was overexposed as opposed to iconic..not on the same level of mayhem as the Padres-Braves or Sox-Yanks brouhaha. They also threw an Earl Weaver argument into the top 3 although I wasn't too impressed with it.

I love old baseball footage, particularly from the 1980s, and I feel like I am fairly knowledgable regarding baseball's history - and I had never seen or heard of ANY of this until just now. But holy shit, that is some awesome footage.

It's amazing how many times you could throw at people back then before getting tossed.

I love those graphics from 80s and older footage. Very clean, very simple. Less is more and all that.

That makes me want to hit the first Braves player to the plate the next time we see them.

Awesome. I love that Schilling is the first one in. Ron Gant throwing people around.

Old friend Josh Outman has made two starts for the A's and he's sporting a fancy 2.08 ERA. The line from his last start is pretty interesting: 6 IP; 6H; 2R; 5BB; 2K. That's some kinda pitchin' boyo. I wonder what his xFIP is?

Seems like a very strange brawl. McDowell had just been on the Mets earlier that year. According to the box score, he only faced Jefferies, and the pitch shown there is the only one he threw.

Ozzie Guillen had a bad weekend huh

First this yesterday, then after today's loss we got this:

On the fans:
"Are they going to feel sorry because we're going to get fired? Hell no. They only remember us from 2005. In 2020 we'll come here in a wheelchair all fucked up. As soon as you leave the ballpark they don't care about you anymore. They don't. The monuments, the statue they got, they piss on it when they're drunk. That's all they do. Thank you for coming, bye-bye."

"We win three in a row and nobody says [Don] Cooper is a great pitching coach, Greg Walker is great. All of a sudden we lose two games and they all want to fire us. Wow. That's nice. I'm not complaining about that because I play. That's part of the game. When the players are good you're good, when the players are bad they're still good. We're the bad guys.

"Nobody gives us enough credit to say, 'Wow, at least those guys care about it.'"

More on losing:
"I wish I didn't feel anything for this game. I wish I didn't care about White Sox, I wish I didn't care about what the general manager, the fans, the media say. I wish I could go out there and say I don't give a shit. I can't.

"I tried to put in my mind that I don't care. No. I do care, because why? I do care and I love this organization and this is the job I want to do. But sometimes you want to say ... I don't care about this. I'd be lying to myself. I do care about this shit."

Couldn't help but read the quotes from Ozzie and manage to do an "Ozzie voice" in my head as I went along.

Ozzie Guillen was a member of the Braves at the time, but oddly didn't seem to do anything ridiculous.

Apparently Jeffries accused McDowell of throwing at him in their previous matchup, and this was a continuation of that discussion.

Love the line from Tom Mees at the end: "And the Mets end 1989 the same way they began it in spring training: fighting and out of first place."

What the heck is wrong with Pujols? .722 OPS this year with an OBP in the .320's.

Did they finally catch him cheating and put a stop to it? Is he injured? Are the distractions getting to him?

Really, he's never had a stretch close to this without some injury being attached to it. I feel out of the loop this season, so maybe I missed something.

He's playing crap so his value plummets and the Phils pick him up on the cheap.

http://www.faketeams.com/2011/5/24/2186 ... ert-pujols

Pujols came down with some "mild tightness" in his left hamstring on April 24. His pre- and

post-hamstring injury numbers are telling.

Through April 24: .250/.306/.500, 7 HR in 98 PAs

Since April 24: .286/.372/.327, 0 HR, 113 PAs

His power dropped off, but the numbers still weren't there at the beginning of the year. .806 OPS through late April is not normal for Pujols. He's great because he basically doesn't slump. He's always hot. But not this year. Something's up.

Well, 98 PA doesn't give you a whole lot of confidence in his numbers anyway. And he did have a .200 BABIP before the hamstring injury. Could've just been unlucky. He's hitting a lot more ground balls, which should actually lead to a higher BABIP (but would also explain some of the loss in power as well).
