If necessary, I will take them both down.

But I think you missed the pro-Castillo stuff I was posting against yesterday. All it takes is one or two people to say something is good and then everyone agrees, often without thinking for themselves, imho.

Maybe the anti-castillo people on the board are just silent on the topic. The philly.com poll seems to suggest so.

Anyway, I said my part about the signing. I'll leave it up to others to decide as it plays out.

I'm upset about not having a 2B too. I just don't see how Castillo is better than what is in camp. And I believe several people yesterday said they "loved" or "liked" the signing, that is what I mean by pro-castillo, so I'm not making this up out of thin air.

The "pro-Castillo" segment basically said the guy's here on a minor league deal, there's no risk and it doesn't cost any money. Why not give it a shot?

That's really a strong endorsement for Castillo there.

Seriously? A Philly.com poll? That's what you're putting your stock in?

May I direct you to the full retard thread, which is comprised of stupid thoughts that are roughly 85% Philly.com commenters.

:q:

I'm not putting stock in anything. I'm just wondering where the anti-castillo crowd is... I was wondering if they were on the board and silent. I have you saying the anti-castillo people are idiots and someone else saying that there is no pro-castillo group on the board. They are opposite positions. If I have to argue both sides of the argument, I have no chance.

tbf, there are now some other people coming out as anti-castillo on the board. Maybe they were here all along and just quiet on the issue.

not many people (on this board at least) have strong feelings about back up/bench players to begin with. they might be decent, theyll probably suck. we had eric brunlett on a WS team and he was god awful.

btw my fav thing on sports message boards is when one poster has an bone to pick with a perceived slight about incorrectly evaluating a player, and lets everyone know about over and over and over again. that never gets old.

I get the sarcasm. And this is what I originally said and was defending at the time.

The more I think about this, the less I like it. I'm going to recant my earlier "ok with it."

He doesn't do anything well, other than maybe take walks, which is negated by his horrible everything else. If it's really only going to be 1-2 months, I would rather let Young or Barfield play. If it's going to be any longer, then I think they'll need to find someone a little better, which isn't really Castillo

And this

Lighten up, Francis. I have no problem with them making backups fight for jobs, but that fight has to mean something.... not all the time, but enough that players feel like they have a reason to fight. The Phils do a good job of this, I think. Werth and Francisco both will be main starters after being backups. Same with Victorino and several members of the pen. Backup players like Valdez, too. It's a consideration. Not the most important thing, but something to throw in there, as I said in my other post.

Castillo is a no risk situation as long as he's let loose if/when he doesn't produce. I think that's easier to do to a backup guy than to someone who is expecting starts until the main guy comes back. I would be surprised if Castillo wasn't promised (or strongly hinted) the starter spot over the others in camp.

My main reasons for not liking it are that I prefer the alternatives in camp AND I think it reduces the chance that they'll do something more creative like Wood. If we're going to get someone outside the organization, I prefer it be someone with some upside. I don't think Castillo has any real upside, though he may be slightly better than last year.

I posted a few things and people totally read into it what they wanted to see. I never said I didn't want players to fight for jobs, or that a minor league deal was some horrible thing, but that is what people heard somehow.

Go back and look what I wrote at the time.... hardly a bashing of the move or Castillo, yet that is what was perceived because I didn't go along with what everyone else was saying. Look for yourself.

What I said in the gamethread today wouldn't even have been noticed if there were other people posting, and it was done to just needle the idea that he has any chance of being good. I wasn't trying to piss anyone off, just needle them a bit. But look at what I wrote and tell me I'm the one who overreacted.

It's hard for me to think of Bruntlett as awful when he had that magnificent facial hair.

Unfortunately, the winner of the 2B derby will be a starter for a while.

I wish we knew how long chase will be out

Now, yes, but I meant what precipitated it. Swearing at me for making a few posts about Castillo? That's pretty moronic.

So now I'll really let it drop this time. I have to face the fact that I'm partially doing this to avoid the mountain of work sitting next to me

In my defense, my wife is 8 months pregnant. And she spilled some hormones on me.

You will all hate him with time. :)

I do feel sometimes like you must fit in with the group think on the board or you are treated like crap, unless you are one of the chosen ones who can do whatever they want. The group think on the board is often wrong. I should have chosen a different way of dealing with it, however, instead of the "poking my brother in the backseat with a stick until he screams" approach.

I wouldn't make such a much about it. It's possible your Jamie Lee Curtis avatar makes it more annoying though.

i swear, all this time I thought it was from stand by me or something.

seriously, MB, i'm sure it's been observed before, but you have quite the thin skin. You're almost as touchy as PtK.
