Andy Martino of the New York Daily News heard from a Mets source Thursday morning that talk of Mike Pelfey (elbow) being in no pain is part of a "company line"
In other words, Pelfrey is actually in a good deal of discomfort. He's discussing his options with a variety of doctors but seems likely to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery to repair his partially torn UCL. The Mets are expected to call up Chris Schwinden on Friday to take the vacant spot in their starting rotation.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mets starter Mike Pelfrey has a partial tear in his right elbow and is "99 percent" certain he will have reconstructive Tommy John surgery that will sideline him until next year.

The MRI results were sent to orthopedist Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. After Andrews consulted with the Mets on Thursday, it was decided that Pelfrey would make an in-person visit to see the doctor, known for ligament-replacement

....In the sixth inning, St. Louis outfielder Carlos Beltran ripped a ball down the third-base line. Adrian Johnson, the third-base umpire, quickly threw up his arms and signaled that the ball was foul.
Except it was not. Chalk flew where the ball hit the line, and replays reinforced the notion that Johnson was wrong.
[In 2008] he was working third base for a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs. In the sixth inning, Chicago’s Mark DeRosa lined a shot down the left-field line that Johnson ruled a home run. Replays clearly showed the ball was foul.
Replay wasn’t available for umpires to use at that time (it is on home run calls now), and Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel, who was ejected for arguing the call, would have surely appreciated it....

Ramirez, who had already showered prior to the completion of the no-no, emerged from the clubhouse in street clothes to join the celebration. He apparently re-aggravated a prior hamstring injury when he was restrained by on-field security, who didn't immediately recognize him.
