Another good "Big Love." Ginnifer Goodwin, Chloë Sevigny, and Tina Majorino gave performances that seemed real, as if they are the characters. Chloë, especially, has been great this season. I feel like I know her.

Agreed. I feel like it's being much more creatively and well shot and soundtracked this year, too.

I thought "John" was OK, but Rebecca DeMornay's character is getting on my last nerve.

"Flight" was less funny than the other three, IMHO, but still enjoyable.

I thought it was pretty good. The only problem I see with that show going forward is that their two personalities seem totally fungible. They're completely clueless when necessary but then sharp and witty when called for.

Can someone who has been paying closer attention to John from Cincinnati tell me why the two Hawaiian guys are still hanging around?

I also thought the plot on this Flight was better which led to funnier dialogue. The songs again - GOLD!

Interesting choices for that Bronx show...

Dick Howser = Vinnie from "Doogie Howser"
DiMaggio = Shooter McGavin from "Happy Gilmore"
detective = the dad from "Wonder Years"

...and there's something about Oliver Platt as Steinbrenner that bugs me...

Are you talking about the greaseball that used to sell Butchie drugs and the guy with the broken wrist who was The Greek's henchman on "The Wire"? If so I'm wondering that, too.

Yeah, the greaseball and Vondas.

Also, I happen to watch the first episode of Brotherhood last night On Demand, thought it was kind of whatever. Can anyone tell me if I should bother with the rest?

For last night's episode, Tuturro was outstanding. I agree Oliver Platt doesn't work all that well (though I thought the scene where he fired Martin was pretty good. I'm not sure I really like the Reggie Jackson actor either. Obviously, these guys are not supposed to be likable. I'm not sure the show has been all that fair to Jackson either.

What I really liked about it was the supporting cast--those guys seem quite good--the Mickey Rivers scene, the Thurman Munson scenes were great.

I think playing Yogi Berra, who is both a well known public figure and well liked might be a challenge. We'll see.

The other thing I liked about the show (and this is more or less nostalgia on my part) is how it takes me back to my baseball childhood. I still have memories of that summer, watching Yankee games on Channel 11. We didn't have air conditioning, so we had the windows open. The New York stuff was interesting as well. Anyway, I found it better than I expected, not as good as I hoped.

What was going on at the end with Margene and the waitress? Is she anticipating Bill's move for a 4th wife and trying to get a jump on developing a relationship with her, since she is still somewhat of an "outsider" to the other two? Is she looking for a lesbian love interest?

The whole episode portrayed her as questioning her situation.

I remember seeing a drunk Mantle and Whitey Ford with Billy Martin, but I think I totally missed the DiMaggio scene- when did he appear?

(By the way- I like it- kind of cool to see the dramatized inner workings of a great baseball team- my vote is for ESPN to do a '93 Phils movie- what great characters you already have for that one :) )

It reminded me of Annabella Sciorra's character on "The Sopranos" making a point to give Carmela a ride home.

I like the duality of Bill's crusade to avenge Roman embarrassing his family and the values they represent while at the same time embracing gambling and lusting for a pie waitress.

The whole episode portrayed her as questioning her situation.

I think we're not supposed to know what Margene is thinking. She's defending Catholicism, but really isn't taking any position that's the opposite of Nicki's the sane one? When she sees Bill with the waitress, assumably without his ring, she appears to know what's going on. Does she feel that three wives is enough? She's the last wife. Is that a role she wants? Or is she, as you say, trying to find out who this woman is because Bill is interested?

It's not a good time for Bill to take another wife. His situation with Roman is still fluid. His situation with being discovered isn't secure. His business situation is up in the air. And, of course, his marriages are having some troubles. Bill seems to be a horn dog more than committed to this way of life. His marriage to Barb is a little shaky and he ignores it. Nicki is having problems (loved her line to Barb: "You can't have a marriage based on love) and he doesn't see it. He doesn't seem to be in tune with his wives at all.
