Ok Just got off the phone: What I'm being told is:

We get Halladay and cash;
We 3 prospects from the Mariners which we send to Toronto with Taylor. Happ is not in the deal.

3-year extension for Doc.

Guy from Beerleaguer. Take it FWIW.

A huge piece of the puzzle seems to be missing.

Maybe the Mariners are just really really nice.

Nicest team in baseball - 10 years in a row and counting!

Halladay was better than Lee last year. Has a much better track record. And is a massive groundball/control/innings eating pitcher. His decline is going to be gradual, if he declines at all any time soon. His last two seasons were elite. His "down" in 2007 was better than anything Lee had done up till 2008. I just think he's the better pitcher, by a substantial margin.

good argument. they were closer in fip than in era+ this year, though, and 15 months of age and a lot more mileage aren't completely negligible issues.

i just don't see the margin being certain or substantial enough in 2010 to be worth giving up brown, unless we are pretty darn certain that waiting a year will drive halladay's price much higher.

Hopefully Rube can pull Aumont or Morrow out of this. I don't hate the deal, but I don't like giving up Taylor and Lee and not getting at least one prospect along with Roy.

So Carrasco, Knapp, Donald, Marson and Taylor for a half season and postseason of Lee and then Halladay for 2010-2014 plus cash.

If you told me that was the deal last July, I would've taken it in a heartbeat.

If they got Halladay for 3 years somehow then I'm happy to be wrong, and this deal makes a ton of sense

Halladay is a rare bird if he'd take 3 years, a true star who is going to settle for below market
