If they pick up Brocail to fill Seanez' mop-up role in the bullpen, it's not a horrible move.

General manager Jim Hendry said Wood was deserving of a three- or four-year deal and the Cubs are not prepared to offer him one.

Uh....by what measure. He's pitched 110 innings in the last 3 seasons combined. Anyone that gives Kerry Wood a 3-4 year deal should be sent straight to Bellevue.

I like Moyer alot but this is silly. He gets a 1 year deal or an arb offer. I can't imagine there is another team in baseball that would give him 2 years, give up a draft pick and such team be one that he would consider pitching for.

Guess it matters how it's structured.

My guess is that it's not so much Phils vs. another team as it is Phils vs. retirement.

So Swisher and Kanekoa Texeira for Wilson Betemit, Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez?

What's the Phillies equivalent of that, Kendrick and Golson? That really doesn't sound like a whole lot that the Yankees gave up there.

I don't get the disrespect Moyer gets. He hasn't missed a start since last millenium and had a 3 something ERA this year with half his games in CBP. I can't imagine there aren't some teams out there that would offer at least a 2 year contract to him. And by the way he's said he'd prefer to play for the Phils, but he will play on another team if not them. He's not going to retire.

No one will give up their first round pick, and give Moyer 2 years. No one.

So we'll bid against no one but Moyer and his agent, and give him 2 years. He was fan-fucking-tastic this year, but he won't be this year, and he'll be the 1500th-best option for 2010. I'd rather have James Moyer pitching in 2010.

Im a no go. I hurt my arm throwing sliders when I was 11. I'd be limited to short relief, and can't pitch on back to back days.

And it's not really disrespect, just people being realistic. He'll be 46 when he starts the first year of that deal. Phil Niekro is the only starter to pitch a reasonable amount of innings at 47 (as in not 10 innings or something like that). Charlie Hough is the only other guy to do at 46.

Since that time Moyer is 30-19 4.37.

Yeah, he's old. But he's a freak and I wouldn't bet against him (no disrespect to James).

He had a great year. But the year before, he had a 5.01 ERA. He's not a freak. His ERA's the last 5 years are 5.21, 4.28, 4.30, 5.01, and 3.71, and I'm supposed to believe the 3.71 is predictive?

I tend to think that the older he gets, the more calls he'll get from the umps. Let's keep 'em till he's 60 and throwing 54 mph into the opposing dugouts for strikes

I mean really.

Offer him 1 year.

If he feels slighted by that, move on. There are a number of interesting free agent pitchers that arent Type A guys, who won't require us giving up picks, who are just as likely to be league average next year and who have even more upside.

Hell, I'd think Happ will produce a league average season over 200 innings if given the starts.

There's no need to overpay and add a potentially bad contract to the books for 2010, when all of our bad deals will be coming off the books.

Manny appears headed to Chicago. Burnett is close, annual figures match but their side wants 5 guaranteed
