Joe Buck is ass

Postby steven snell » Fri Oct 10, 2008 08:25:02

I laughed when McCarver said Howard should have the green light on this 3-0 pitch when it was 2-1. I think Buck jabbed him in the ribs to make him retract it.

I DID agree when he said Dobbs should have been pinch hitting in the 7th instead of Oh No Dont Say Its So. 46000 in the stands agreed also.

I normally can't stand this kind of whining about announcer bias, but Buck's calls on the Utley and Burrell homers were incredibly mundane.

I guess the nine years of Eagles fans calling him a gaylord took their toll.

Fox is really missing an opportunity here. How many people forget that Tim McCarver was on the LAST PHILLIES TEAM THAT WON A CHAMPIONSHIP. Steve Carltons personal catcher. He was also an annoucer for the Phillies in the 1980's. He could talk about his experience on the last championship team etc. Would be good theater. Not necessary biased either.

I guess something happened while McCarver was here because he is not only out of touch he is clearly biased towards the Dodgers.

I didn't at all. That was the right move to bunt him over and So didn't get it done. If the runner was on 2nd or 3rd - definitely go with Dobbs to knock him in.

Disagree. The Phillies had some momentum there, and I liked Dobbs' chances against a righty.

Even if So succeeded, they could have walked Rollins, pitched Vic carefully, and brought in a lefty to shut down Utley and Howard.

But hey, whatever. That game felt like a loss to me for five innings and we went up and took it.

Speaking of FOX broadcasters....was Ken Rosenthal standing in a hole when he interviewed Burrell or is he really that short?

About the silence thing on the last play: I feel like Joe Buck often goes silent at what he deems "big" moments when they occur in favor the home team in their ballpark/stadium, to allow the emotion of the fans speak for itself.

But the whole Manny past/Manny present storyline is just.... ugh. What about a Philadelphia-Boston unfinished business Super Bowl emerging rivalry between the towns sort of thing? Same thing with Philadelphia-Tampa. Or the fact that Philadelphia hasn't seen a parade OF ANY KIND in 25 years? Yeah, yeah, yeah people go on and on about the fuck-ing Cubs and their drought and it turns into "Wouldn't it be great to see them win?", but when the drought is mentioned, no one ever seems to suggest it would be nice to see the team from Philadelphia win.

McCarver retired in 1980 after only a few games...he wasn't on the team when we won the World Sereis

Maybe this is picking nits, but it also annoyed me that they didn't mention at all that Manny might have had a triple if he wasn't admiring his work.

they kind of did right when it happened which surprised me, but they should have talked about it more than they did - because it was kinda significant since they lost by 1.

In fairness to McCarver there, the one strike called on Howard was way outside, so he may have just assumed it was 3-0
