true. but for most of the regular season i'm confined to the computer to be able to watch my team; so it's nice to be able to relax on the couch downstairs and watch them on an actual television

ditto- On a side note, I play noontime basketball with the sad mets guy's (in your avatar) dad at the university I work at. Funny, random way to spend one's 15 minutes of fame.

Yeah- the kid is a school teacher, and he made the rounds on the cheesy NY morning talk shows last year, and even got on Regis and Kelly. He was able to get Beltran out to his elementary school somehow as well. Kind of a cool story.

His dad was well aware of my Philly Phandom, and showed me the front page of the NY paper that the photo originally ran in.

King Kauffman at Salon.com had a lot of fun at Tim McCarver's expense this morning. McCarver truly was in rare form last night.

Oops- my bad- I searched and found the right guy I'm refering too- he was the guy that was on the front page of all the NY papers after the Mets collapse last year. Similar looking photos, clearly different guys:

I know Fox is the lowest of the low ... but is McCarver liked elsewhere in the land?

Awful Announcing hates Buck; Fire Joe Morgan hates McCarver. I'm sure there are others who agree with them nationwide.

I truly think its time to stop using ball-players and stiffs for pbp and color. Let's get some fun entertaining and knowledgable regular Joes up in there. Guys like us! I have a great voice and no lack of being verbal, I'd do the color for the Phils in a heart-beat!

I have no idea if you are being serious or sarcastic. I laughed and raised my eyebrows in disbelief in an attempt to cover both possibilities.

Since we have to endure McBuck, the least FOX could do is fill the booth with helium. High pitched chipmunk voices should provide an acceptable degree of compensation...

I'm sure you're aware of this, but there's a whole lot more to it than that. As much as I dislike Buck and McCarver, I will give them that their job can't be done by just anybody.

But it can be done by their dads (or so it goes for mostly every current broadcaster)

Not just a shot at Buck, but figure y'all would appreciate this gem found at a sports journalists board I hang out at. And, yes, it's written with 110% sarcasm:

Now that Tampa Bay has all but cinched the World Series, I think it's time for us to compare this team to other alleged all-time great teams.

Of course, it's an unfair comparison since none of these other teams had players comparable to BJ Upton, Evan Longoria, David Price or the legendary first ballot Hall of Famer "Big Game" James Shields.

1927 Yankees 2 (9.5%)
1975 Reds 2 (9.5%)
1970 Orioles 1 (4.8%)
1998 Yankees 1 (4.8%)
2008 Rays -- In fact, this team is so great, that MLB should fold after this series, since any future champion would be embarassed to compare themselves to the almighty Rays 15 (71.4%)

GEORGE: Well, it doesn't even have to be the general manager. Maybe I could be like, an announcer. Like a color man. You know how I always make those interesting comments during the game.

JERRY: Yeah. Yeah. You make good comments.

GEORGE: What about that?

JERRY: Well, they tend to give those jobs to ex-ballplayers and people that are, you know, in broadcasting.

GEORGE: Well, that's really not fair.

JERRY: I know. Well, okay. Okay. What else do ya like?

I'd be okay with Buck and McCarver if we had drsmooth in the booth with them, on-mic and armed.

One thing is for sure, I have no real gripes with their outrage over the ump's phantom strikeout call last night. McCarver seemed particularly annoyed, and he doesn't seem to get annoyed about much.
