How does this season prove anything about last season?

since they havent played a game since last night, am I allowed to defect?

I don't want to join officially until Sunday night. Even though in my head, I've already prepared the concession speech.

I'll give up when they are eliminated. That said, this team has a lot wrong with it.

You can blame the Phils' current plight on lots of things including trying to fix holes with Geoff Jenkins, Pedro Feliz and So Taguchi among other funky moves. Giving lots of starts to Eric Bruntlett also was a reall winning move.

But really, the Mets have taken a three game lead on our heroes with all sorts of guys no one ever heard of and Fernando Tatis.

The Phils haven't played all that well in a long time. They once had a 5 game lead, as Floppy noted, but have they even played .500 ball since then?

But until they are actually eliminated there is hope. Baseball is a funny game.

the phils' highwater mark is still 13 over .500 which we first achieved in early june or late may or whatever, when we had the 5 game lead, right?

since then we've basically been a sub .500 team, since we're 12 over now.

I was going to be out. I actually said in another post the Mets were going to win the division. Now I have changed my mind. Three out on September 4th is nothing. I'm in.

I'm in until we're mathematically eliminated just like every year. I believe that this weekend the Phillies have a real good chance. At least on paper. Phillies rock.

They were actually 14 games over .500 once. Just last week, after that crazy 8-7 victory over the Mets. Since then, it's been all downhill. Also, they've never been more than four games over .500.

I'm still in. A three game deficit is nothing with more than three weeks to play.

If the Phillies take 2 of 3 from the Mets, I think the Phillies have a great shot at winning the division. I think the Phillies' starting pitching and, yes, bullpen are better, and the offenses are comparable.

And the Phillies have a better bench and defense than the Mets. The only clear advantage the Mets have over the Phillies is speed, but Reyes/Castillo/Beltran/Chavez and whoever else isn't that much better than Rollins/Victorino/Werth/Golson. Overall, the Mets have a 79% success rate on SB's and the Phillies have an 83.7% success rate.
