I just saw the highlights on Sports Center. Holy crap, could this have been a more poorly played baseball game? These two teams are going nowhere.

According to Mike Lupica on the Sports Reporters this morning, Boras called the Red Sox about an hour or two after the trade to say that Manny would be interested in signing there in the off-season and to gauge their interest.
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.

The Phillies were a team said to excite Ramirez. They have a great lineup and an even better ballpark for him to put up big second-half numbers and enhance his free-agent value. The Phillies had interest but were apparently offering even less than L.A. They may have had concerns about how Ramirez would fit into the same outfield with Pat Burrell.

We need to make a run at signing Manny in the off-season. It will improve board quality.

No. Burrell's better and Buckholz has lost faith in his fastball.

Burrell with a career OPS of .860, and manny with a career OPS of .999

Burrell's a lot better, you're right.

We're talking about a half-year rental, smart guy -- this year. Burrell's OPS+ is 151, Manny's is 140.

And now Burrell's OPS+ is 146, while Manny's is 152, and the gap will just get larger and larger as the end of the season goes on. You know why? As I stated before, Manny Ramirez is a much better hitter

i just love proving people wrong, i've been doing it for years and won't stop on this board either

You will, actually. This is close to trolling behavior, and you haven't exactly made yourself beloved here. You have no benefit of the doubt.

So stop acting like a jackass, or you're gone.

Who did you want to give up for Manny? Burrell? The whole point of adding Manny would be to help this offense. Subtracting Burrell wouldn't have made much sense. Donald and Marson? I love Manny too but I wasn't willing to trade our future catcher and another guy who will play a role on this team soon for a two month rental. If the deal would have been Werth+ everyone would have been on board with it. Sometimes what we want just isn't feasible.

What a pity you waited so patiently for what you thought was the exact the moment you were right -- only to be wrong. I said "Burrell's better," not "Burrell's a better hitter."

Burrell's VORP is 38.1; Manny 35.6. Burrell has 19 Win Shares; Manny 15. Burrell's WARP3 9.1; Manny 8.4. By any measure which includes totality of play, not just hitting, Burrell is better than Manny this year.

That must hurt. Thanks for playing and better luck next time.
