He doesn't believe in telling anyone to do anything. He's not on the side of the Chinese or Tibet. He's just an isolationist nut.

I don't know the ins and outs of this pickle (and don't have time this second to figure it out), but I've always wondered why it was such an assumed slam dunk for the Tibetans. If Native Americans or psycho Montanans wanted out from the U.S., we certainly wouldn't grant it. Why is that a bad analogy?

Well, most every American Indian tribe I know of is their own nation.

Tibet WAS an independent nation as recently as the 40s.

They are making the Tibetans be the javelin catchers.

Torch run out my window....

China is not going to yield to any pressure. They are not leaving Tibet, nor making reparations for all the damage they've done or people they've harmed. I don't get it sometimes with this big countries, why does China care so much about Taiwan, let alone Tibet?

Why does Russia care about Chechnia (sp?)

Why does the USA care so much about Cuba and Puerto Rico?

Nation States and Imperial domination are going the way of the Dough-Dough sooner or later....

If I were in the Senate I probably would have voted against that too. Total waste of time.

Is anyone looking forward to the Olympics? Do you have a favorite event?

I really don't get much out of the Olympics at this point. I admire the athletes, but pure speed and pure strength -- eh... swimming is cool i guess, diving ... i'd rather see Cirque do Soleil than the gymnastics stuff which I find kind of stiff compared to art-forms that also use strenght and flex, like modern dance, or ballet -- is the Javelin throw rocking anyone's world and for pure strength, I'd rather see those Icelandic guys drag a car with chains...

The coverage is really awkward, few things are in real time, the editing is strange as they try to make some kind of build up of tension... I'm sure I'll glance it a bit, but can't say I'm really looking forward to it or any specific competitor.

Anyone think there will be an political noize or actions during? Or is China prepared to keep a tight leash? Somehow I can't see a '72 style action going down in Beijing...

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't realize the 5000 was on tonight. a very interesting race, although as usual you wouldn't know it by the TV coverage-but at least they showed virtually the whole race.

I'm mainly interested in the distance races-and particularly the women's 1500, since Haddonfield's Erin Donahue has a legitimate shot at qualifying. But it wa still cool to see Tyson Gay run 9.68 in the 100 Saturday, even if it converts "only" to a 9.85 when the wind is taken into account.

The Olympics themselves though just leave a bad taste in my mouth this year. I don't so much blame China as the IOC, who ought to be selecting locations that will provide the athletes the best opportunity to perform well, instead of selling out to countries where hundreds of thousands of people have to be displaced for adequate facilities to be created and where the air is so bad that they'll virtually have to shut down the region for a week in order to hope to make it bearable.

Th only good thing about boycotts, though, is that they forced track to create their own world championships every other year. These are a lot more appealing to me, and usually produce better competition.

Went to the paradesend off for Haddonfield's Erin Donohue last night. Good luck in the 1500, Erin!

Because it was on the non-sports board, and they're about to start, so I thought it should be on the sports board.
