Roster Watch

Any word on the prgress of any of our wildcards, Scott Mathieson, Mike Zagurski, Matt Smith? Are any of these projected to be fully healthy in 2009? Mathieson has as much potential as any pitching prospect we have had the last 20 years, not named Hamels.

Edit: Just saw the post on Scott and Mike.

Matt Smith was taken off the roster and received a non roster spring invite in january 2008....he pitched a little for AAA but i don't know if they are re-signing him....

He pitched 15 rehab innings in the GCL and FSL. I thought the Phils released him but he cleared waivers and they managed to keep him in the organization -- at least for now. I liked him as a pitcher and I hope he gets a chance next season. It would be kinda cool to have Romero, Eyre and Smith from the left side in '09.

Now we see the dark side of RosterBot.

Not so cute and lovable when he's taking Pat from us.

Phils also add Drew Naylor and Joel Naughton to the 40 man roster in anticipation of the Rule 5 draft. Looks like Slayden and Overholt are available to be selected.

Yeah, Slayden seems like a smart pick for any team that could use a bench bat. Which probably would be most of them. Amaro's first mistake?

I'd say not...the roster Amaro inherited had Slayden blocked even as a bench player six ways to Sunday. Clearly no one in the org liked him. I doubt he'll be missed
