I don't think the girl was being unruly, I think 7MARY3 thought she was looking out for her. She thought the girl was 9 and it was dangerous for her to be in a bookstore by herself, so she made her stay behind the register until a family member came to pick her up. The girl turned out to be 12 (you know how small those Asians are). 7MARY3 titled the thread something about how Asian families don't care about girls. It was obvious that she expected to be congratulated for her actions but instead everyone attacked her for stereotyping and for basically kidnapping the girl. She did the thing where she'd say "I'm done talking about this" then she'd come back and talk about it some more. Then she stopped posting in that thread just as a new poster emerged to defend her, a poster whose entire posting history consisted of showing up in threads where 7MARY3 was being criticized and defending her. Probably a coincidence. 7MARY3 never posted at philliesphans again.

I was in a funny spot for that whole nonsense at the old board. I had been posting at the phillies.com message board for a little while, then I heard about the "renegade" board, and found it. I lurked for like a month, and I was finally ready to register when you all burned it down. I tried to register the day dave snyder shut it all down. I thought for a while that it might be because I was awaiting confirmation or something. When I registered, everything was fine, then when I checked back that night, the whole board had disappeared. I finally ended up on philaphans, then philliesboard, before BSG got started up.

I was happy to get in at the start of a new board, where I wouldn't be a noob, and there was this Ken Rosenthal guy who was supposed to keep us all in the know. So much for all of that.

While looking around the old board I just found this set of posts that I thought were funny.

My memory is that there were two separate events. The one you describe, where 1 was banned, people came to his defense, the moderators realized that they had their facts wrong and reinstated 1 but banned at least one poster over his behavior during that fracas.

In the second incident mvpsoft received complaints from a poster at philliesphans that she was being harassed on the internet, not on philliesphans, but by someone she believed was a member of philliesphans. mvpsoft learned (from Disco Stu?) that the people at the Orange Board knew who the harasser was. He threatened to ban them all unless one of them told him who it was. No one told and they all got banned. It turned out that the harasser was someone who had been banned from philliesphans long before, so it really was none of mvpsoft's business. I thought that was the final straw that led to BSG.

Are you kidding?!? Man, I didn't even know half of this shit went on. I guess that's because I didn't post all that much back then. Within the past year I started posting more over there and quickly picked up on the way that board operates though (hence my ending up here as soon as I found out about this board's existence).

the whole thing was really just crazy. i wish i hadn't pruned the old threads on the orange board. then again, i'm glad i've forgotten most of it. it just made me so angry that these supposedly intelligent people could be so incredibly dumb.

I asked about the $10 bond in a tone that I thought that if the bucks were for running the board, then I was fine, but a $10 threat was fairly meaningless to lose if 'I' stepped out of line. The answer was that it was a requirement and that there would be no more discussion about it.

In the way back machine when we posted too philly.com and phillies.com, there was that racist in California who ended up going off the deep end and going to jail... as that we all going down there was a phils board NFL fantasy football league where we did a live draft. I think I called my team the reading rifles (anyone know this reference without google?) and as we had our side chat I said that my screen name was the racist dudes, I could feel the silence and awkwardness over the chat window. I let it go about 5 minutes before I left them off the hook.

Not only did they ask for $10, but Julio wanted first name, last name, address, phone number, email address, REFERENCES, REASONS WHY YOU'D BE A GOOD MEMBER....it was like a damn job application just for the right to read 10 posts a day...
