blue book value is $5200 (guessing insurance wouldn't see it that way), deductible for collision is $500. i've had a few people tell me it's senseless to have it since my truck is over 5 years old. it accounts for about 1/3 of my payment right now.

so if a squirrel runs out and you total your car tomorrow, would that $4700 be a huge difference? If not, then by all means drop it.

(not considering the fact that the flying squirrel will come to your rescue one day)

i think there was a five year rule of thumb to go by. If you pay more for collision premiums over a five year period than the car is worth today, you cancel it if you can stomach the loss. It's just a general rule and you would take in account the deductible and depreciation too. Sounds like anything less than 80 a month, you keep the collision, unless you can easily replace the vehicle with one just as good or better.

Nah. Since it's an electric car it can have a greater control over toque curves. It's not going to spin wheels either

That's what I mean. It is normal for gas cars, because torque to the wheels drops as you go up in gears, but this shouldn't happen to a Tesla which has only a single gear. Granted, air resistance is a function of the square of velocity so it ramps up quickly, but I didn't think that quickly...
