Yeah, you can set the app to stream them, download them over any connection, or download them on wifi only. It's extremely versatile. I have mine set to a 5am download over my home wifi because I don't have a massive data plan and don't have wifi access at work. And I pretty much have a podcast going all day when I'm in my office and not on the phone.

You're in about the same boat as me then, might give it a try. It looks like Podbay is in the midst of updating their service to enable cross-platform syncing though so maybe I'll tough it out a little longer since I listen from my browser at work.

If cross platform matters a lot to you (it doesn't to me), check out Pocket Casts. I tried it for a while last year when I wanted a new podcast manager, but I slightly preferred BeyondPod's interface and feature list.

ETA: I forgot to mention that there is an EpisodeSync feature in BeyondPod that is in Beta. I'm not sure how (or how well) it works because I pretty much only do video casts on my tablet, so I don't want my subscription lists to overlap.

Radiolab has had some super interesting shows recently. Loved these two in particular:

"Brown Box" is about a reporter who worked undercover in an Amazon.com-esque 17 million square foot warehouse. It's pretty staggering to hear how the operation works:

"Cut and Run" explores why the Kalenjin tribe in Kenya has produced so many world class runners. It goes through the physics of their body types and societal pressures to run, but ends up talking about the insane ritual they have for males at age 13 that makes them seemingly impervious to pain. It'll make you a little queasy if you're prone to that.

Just started listening to Radiolab. A few have been really good, some not so much.

I've been trying, but I can't get into this american life. I'll try again. Must be something wrong with me because everyone seems to love it.

Yeah I've been consistently deleting This American Life lately. The topics haven't intrigued me at all. Haven't listened to this week yet though.

I find episodes of both TAL and Radiolab similar in that they're either totally engrossing or I lose interest within 5 minutes. Any time an episode of TAL is someone reading an essay I tune out. I also can't do books on tape.

Listened to the first half of TAL yesterday. Really intriguing story. I'd heard a lot of that reported on Maddow over the past year, but the reporter's personal angle on it is really good.

i fell asleep at the end bc i was tired.

idk, i pretty much enjoy every episode of TAL. last year had 4 or 5 all timers surrounded by a bunch of very good ones. hard to follow that up.

If anybody isn't familiar with it, I use the App DAR-FM..it's pretty much like a DVR for your radio..you can set it to tape pretty much any radio show around the country and then just play it back and listen on your Android or I Phone or even your computer.

There is a yearly cost, but I love it, as I tape and get nightly episodes of the Nerdist Podcast, Phil Hendrie show, Bubba the Love Sponge, Adam Carolla Podcast and Smodcast..it's a good service to have in my opinion. Helps me get through work each night listening to some shows for some laughs.

I hear it does, but I had the same reaction. Listened to the first ep and just didn't care to do the next one. I like dramatic fiction podcasts, but I just couldn't deal with the format. Plus the music was just painful.

yeah, just too much competition in podcasts for me to really bother to see if improves

what other fiction type pods are you into, haven't really explored the genre? (I know about the zombie one, liked but didn't love it)
