Rules were different back then!

Don't think they filmed five a day and newbies weren't given the time to figure out how the buzzer works

I like Austin Roger's style. Bet big, and blow it early, then build up steam to smash a second round daily double, just to smear on abuse with the final question (for big money). He was the only one to know Gaul yesterday, which was most of modern France, and some of Germany (I think it went that far and google is not terribly helpful here for a quick win) but in the context of the question, not that hard. By then he had just broken the other contestants spirits, including snagging a few of the legal questions from the Philadelphia lawyer.

I wonder if his study strategy was to live through countless bar trivia nights.

I think they filmed the same and they changed the buzzer half way through his run. The buzzer is the reason for dominant players (and hunting for and playing correctly on daily doubles). They all know almost all of the answers.

How the fuck do all these bartender types do so well on Jeopardy? Is there some sort of strategy or guide on how to win?

Saw an interview with him and he said he figured out patterns to the answers. He said the last three times he’s seen a clue about a European sculptor the answer has always been the same. Then he gave a couple other examples of patterns like that, said he basically tried to memorize as many as e could.

No, think he means the interview was with Austin, the Jeopardy contestant.

Seems like there probably shouldn't be a pattern.

There are only so many trivia questions you can write.

And it's not like he's some jeopardy hacker. This is what everyone on Jeopardy does. They're people with great memories who watch a lot of Jeopardy.

Well that doesn't sound so much like a pattern as much as it does learning a lot of stuff.
