I'm two days behind on the dvr, but he's incredible.

The final jeopardy last night was something like 'Appropriately, this 1984 blockbuster was the first music CD to be mass produced in the United States'.

Two answers were 'The Terminator' and 'WHAT'

Yeah, and honestly I think he was trying to keep from bursting into laughter which is totally understandable.

I went on an interview last week and the bulk of the conversation of one of the people I met with was his appearance on Jeopardy earlier that week.

Why is it so incredible to believe people wouldn't know that Final Jeopardy question?

I don't care if people know it. I also think just typing WHAT if you don't know it is pretty hilarious. It's just a little surprising that only 1 of the 3 people actually on Jeopardy got it and one of them wrote THE TERMINATOR.

To me, it is a strangely worded question in that the term "blockbuster" usually connotes a movie so in that context, I could see THE TERMINATOR being a valid guess.

However, movies don't come on CDs, especially not in 1984.

Also, I don't understand the use of the word "Appropriately" in the answer/question.

Appropriately and in the US were hints.

"mass produced in the United States"

"Born in the U.S.A."


it's not that obfuscated

1. I'm guessing the guy wrote "what" (usually people write "what is") as a starting point and then never thought of the answer. I guess I'm captain obvious there, but I don't see what's crazy about that.
2. The Terminator person was just confused by the oddly worded question.
3. I'm sure Trebek was being an asshole.

its mandatory that you write "What.." before you even see the clue. he just let it blank

I also thought the word "blockbuster" was confusing in that context. How many times do you hear that used for an album rather than a movie? FWIW, my first guess was Thriller, even though I was fairly sure it came out before that.
