That is insanity. That came from the White House as an official statement. Tragic. Well below the dignity of the office.

There's reporting coming out of the White House that it was a split decision by his advisors. Some of them are advocating to reward Roger Stone's loyalty, and others were pointing out that it makes him look weak to provide benefits to those who serve him. In the end the turning point was that someone, and that person was not identified yet, said that stones sentence is a reflection on his legitimacy. That was it sealed the deal.

I expect we see some of these in rapid succession from now on.

Roger Stone wants commutation, and Trump is giving it...without him applying. So apparently there are two rules:

1. You have to go to prison.
2. You can't be seeking appeals or a new trial.

Roger hasn't yet been to prison, and Trump admits...he's seeking a new trial!

Commutations are 1. Reduction to time served or 2. Reduction of the rest of a sentence. Roger has never been - and you can't reduce what hasn't yet started!

Otherwise, he needs to have cooperated with the government, done service for America (HA!), or be really sick.

Trump is easily one of the worst 5 presidents in US history but it’s amazing that he is apparently one of the most feared by government officials. It’s extremely frustrating that in the end, despite what a corrupt, unethical and criminal life he’s lead, he is going to go out on top without ever being held accountable for any of it.
