We want to know what businesses are black owned so that we can support them. A lot of these businesses have plenty of people who don’t support them because the ownership is black. So this time, it seems appropriate to counteract that.

Personally, I want to know because I like to bring my son into these businesses so he can see, even at a young age, black people who can do things like own businesses. His barber (who is now my barber) is black, and that’s one example of many.

If it's one of those businesses where I don't interact with the owner, I'm struggling to understand the principle/rule that tells me this makes sense. Are Hispanic business owners better off in the hierarchy here? How about non native English speakers? How about low income businesses?

Secondly, did the newspaper ask permission of each business? Verify? I could see businesses with multiple partners having reasons to claim black ownership, or not claim ownership, so taking that choice away from the business seems off. What if a business was vandalized after the publication? What if it's a racist area, would the publication of the list then be irresponsible? What if the publication of the business leads to vandalism? From my perspective, having a newspaper publish a list of black-owned businesses is something that surprised me. Even from a liability standpoint, I'm somewhat surprised they'd be willing to publish a list. Would we support a list of Jewish owned businesses being published? Maybe that already exists. How about a directory of businesses by race and cover all our bases?

I don't know what the answer is, obviously, but I find that asking the same question in different ways is producing different answers in my head. And that leaves me struggling to understand whether I think it's a good idea. I realize it's an unpopular opinion, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Disputed, altho not beyond shadow of a doubt. It *does* look like another protester drags the man from police by the legs, so video evidence that the police just take his legs off. Also, can't really tell they're prosthetic since he's wearing pants.

I think you can question the Reading Eagle, but it doesnt make sense to ask for a list of White-owned businesses, either.

There’s two reasons that I can see for doing it

- In Lancaster, I’ve seen it framed as “hey, if you would like to support a minority owned business in the wake of the blm protests, here are a list of them downtown”

- last year the company I work for has made supplier diversity a point of emphasis. When we put out a request for proposal we will seek out minority and women owned business to solicit proposals from to make sure we are giving everyone a fair shot. It’s not a stretch to think that individuals would want to do the same sort of thing. Places like WB Mason will also put an indicator on products from minority and women owned businesses as well.
