How? I don't find anything wrong with his quote. There is a small percentage of people in this country who are "not very good people" and are "deplorables." Why do we have to sugar coat that we have blatant racists and xenophobes in our country? Why shouldn't we appeal to the people who have a shred of morality?
Genuinely curious.
You're right - these people need to be called out. Although its a free country, they do not represent the ideals of this country shouldn't be viewed as acceptable by the majority of americans.
I agree with what Biden said and I agree with what Hillary said (basket of deplorables, which was widely mistaken for being about half the country when it was about 25% of the country - half of half - and was said in the context of a statement that was trying actually to be compassionate towards the disaffected Trump voter) and I agree with what Obama said (guns and religion).
But speaking in these terms doesn't convince anyone of anything they don't already believe, but gives "bulletin board material" to your opposition. Unforced errors. Bulletin board material probably doesn't matter in sports, but in politics it sure as shit does. Ask every presidential race loser in my life time outside of Mondale, who never had a chance to begin with.
