I drove down to see someone in Port Republic last weekend, and while going down Chestnut Neck road, my eye was caught by the sight of a large cannon, which I've now discovered has been incorporated into a miniature golf course at an RV campground. My first thought was, "that looked a lot like the one at Vets Stadium used in the original "Home Run Spectacular." I only caught a quick glimpse of it then, but did find the image below online (I think it's been repainted since then, and probably has many times before). However, I can't find any good shots of the cannon when it was located at the stadium, so I haven't been able to compare. Any thoughts, or anyone have any decent pics of the cannon at the Vet? Phil and Phillis, of course, have found a happy retirement at Storybook Land in Egg Harbor, not all that far away.

Could just be the pictures but the mini golf one looks more tapered. There's a bunch of youtubes that might have a better shot but I don't have the patience.

Here's the view from google maps although I'm not sure it offers much help.

I'm more open to the possibility after looking at the google map pics. Need someone to superimpose the 2 pics. The legs look shorter on the vet pic but I'd guess there's some sort of lip on the platform that might explain that.

Continuing the beer pong discussion from the COVID thread, in the mid-90s at Lafayette College, the game called "beer pong" was a modified version of ping-pong, played with paddles. You had one or two players per team, with one cup per player. The cup was filled with one 12-oz (cheap) beer at the start of each game. If a cup was hit during play, and the team whose cup was hit could not return it, they would have to take a drink. If the ball landed in a cup, they would have to finish the beer.

The game that most know as "beer bong" we called Beirut.

Even at that time it seems Lafayette was an outlier.

We always called what is commonly known as beer pong Beirut too
