Imagine still being a Trump supporter. You’d have to be such a fucking idiot. Like literally the most easily duped rube on the planet. I’d assume you have a stockpile of snake oil somewhere in your house.

I just feel pity for Trump supporters because they’re so pathetic and stupid.

Got into a sparring match with a friend who is all in on that this is a lie to bring down the president enabled by the media. I gave his actual numbers that he dismissed (first gotta get the virus - sure, but what happens next? Totally overblown he says.). What a super long con he thinks this must be (speculating here) since that fabrication would have had to start in November in China then get international players to make stuff up all to enable that fantasy.

From an NPR interview:

There's an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll which surveys American attitudes about the coronavirus. And there's an interesting finding having to do specifically with Republicans. In February, 72% of Republicans agreed that this was a real threat as opposed to something that was overblown. Today, only 40% of Republicans specifically think it is a real threat as opposed to overblown. What do you say to those of the president's supporters who think this is some kind of Democratic effort to get the president, or some kind of hoax?

Pence:

I don't think you have to tell any American that the threat of the coronavirus to our population is real. People understand that.

That was really well done; thank you, Barry Rubin. Lets suspend reality for a moment and say, for the sake of argument, that Trump did in fact "feel this was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic". Why then, Mr. President, did it take you nearly two months to start taking the threat seriously? Instead you spent that time downplaying the threat, calling it a hoax, lobbing political bombs at rivals, lying about tests and numbers and response, and setting the groundwork for an economic collapse.

You, sir, are a complete and utter failure and, to quote Maximus Decimus Meridius, "the time for honoring yourself will soon be at an end".

Then after this vote today, Bernie and Jane are going to get on a plane back to Vermont. Once there, they’ll begin holding conversations with supporters to get input and assess the path forward for our campaign. We will keep you updated as those conversations progress.

Bernie's campaign raised over $45m in February and I imagine he is sitting on at least that much in campaign contributions. He should end his campaign and offer those who donated the choice of getting it back or donating it to a charity for people in need right now. Burning through that cash for vanity is a disgrace.

Axios is reporting that Bernie Sanders will suspend his Presidential campaign. So far only thing I see is a tweet from a Bloomberg reporter.

EDIT: I can't find the original tweet anymore, but Sam Stein of the Daily Beast/MSNBC tweeted that a Bernie aide said nothing changed since the earlier report of reevaluating the campaign.

Bernie’s Comm Director saying it’s not true. So there’s that.

A federal government plan to combat the coronavirus warned policymakers last week that a pandemic “will last 18 months or longer” and could include “multiple waves,” resulting in widespread shortages that would strain consumers and the nation’s health care system.

Some hoax.

It's going to keep going around unit there's a vaccine. It's too contagious to completely contain. I really wonder what will happen in China when they relax restrictions. That will be the first test case, though I do think it will be more widespread in the US and harder to control. They are slowly relaxing things in China now, but I'm not sure about all regions. Maybe Wuhan is still in total lockdown.

This sort of slid by, but the Director of OPM resigned abruptly two days ago. This article says that it is in part due to poor treatment by the Director of Presidential Personnel Office, John McEntee and appointee Paul Dans (who there is so little information about that you have to look at his LinkedIn profile, if you dare, find out that he is a UVA trained lawyer and to guess that he is about 50). John McEntee is famous for, among other things, being Trumps body man and "leaving" the WH before for not being able to qualify for a clearance (recall that OPM has something to do with clearance processing).

Also in the fray are a pile of college seniors who have been hired into senior adviser positions while finishing university. There is little information about the young men aside from the supposition that they are some form of loyalist that caught someones attention. This guy seems like a local PA boy made good since he has a Bank of Lancaster checking account: John Troup Calhoun Hemenway seems like he may have been a teenage volunteer during the president's initial election.

This story seems a lot too buried in the time of COVID.
