Personally I find his overall voting record acceptable and it's pretty well rated by groups.
I'm not sure legislative history necessarily relates to one's vision for the future. Times change, people change. For the specific items you mention you could raise the same concern about the majority who were in congress at the time.
I completely agree with this. Certainly he is human and therefore failable. sure he has some unfortunate blemishes. I think that the crime bill seemed like a good solution at the time and age and wisdom show it to be horribly tilted, accidentally (or opportunistically) racist, overly harsh, etc. WRT war footing, Iraqi was a farce, and post 9/11 the nation was in uncharted territory netting netting some rash decisions.
I think it will take years to repair and rebuild everything Trump's damaged and dismantled. There's also unfinished work to complete before we start complete upheavals.
I am afraid that so much damage has been done that Joe might not have a shot at fixing all of it. Basically Trump has been catastrophic. Domestically and internationally things are dire.
Joe as president won't energize Trumpism the way more progressive candidates would. With enough success and support it might just begin to fade.
Where I agree, the progressive movement has many merits about things that have been neglected or ignored to the point that it is internal decay. Finding a way to start to answer things is imperative.
Just a few thought on your excellent post.
