It's really weird everyone's attitude is "It's fine, it just kills old people". To me that means we should be careful so we don't get it to old people. It's the same as getting a flu shot you selfish fucks
Completely agree with that last part. Was at a Wawa this morning and the cashier is a senior citizen. She had plastic gloves on to accept people's money, and I thought a similar thing. Like it is our responsibility to make sure I am doing my best to make sure I can't get her sick. She has earned the right not to die by some shitty ass virus.
I think we need to accept the very strong probability that we all be exposed to COVID-19 and carry on living our lives.

Exactly, this and Milty's article sum everything up. It's just very selfish to have this kind of attitude

Try this and ctrl+f 'flatten'CFP wrote:The Dude wrote:JUburton wrote:That's not the point though. You'd think the NYT could drop the paywall for coronavirus coverage. Guess not.

There's a very easy way to tell dumb people from smart people. Or at least people with the ability to develop a cognitive thought.
Dumb people: The flu kills way more people per year.
Smart people: Influenza has been around for 2,400 years. COVID-19 has been around for three months.
Your memes, prayers, and thoughts are no match for science and mathematica.
COVID-19 has been around for many years, look at a Lysol bottle (older than 3 months ago, like years..) it says it kills the virus. Not a new virus, media is making it more than what it is.

i think this is largely true, and the people in the middle like me are considered crazy by both sides

The problem is that this has been politicized, largely by defenders of Trump, so what people believe depends not on their evaluation of evidence but on their political loyalties. The only way to defend Trump's idiocy and incompetence in dealing with a major public health threat is simply to deny it's a problem. Republicans have of course been doing this for awhile with other issues like climate change.
A competent Republican President would act differently, I'm sure, but there's also an underlying ideology--the denial that as a public we should do things (pay taxes, not be so selfish) for the sake of public goods.

It started to spiral from there.

no, it's selfish people that are liberals too. They're not looking at the big picture bc they won't get seriously sick

I may end up stealing that eventually. I'm tired of seeing people post stupid memes. I swear we will meme our way through the apocalypse.
