Bet you're touching your balls though.

As would anyone who got a good look at the pharmacy assistant!

The local CVS got a new assistant a few weeks ago. Total smokeshow.

This will instill calm.

south Korea has managed things very well as a democracy. They tested the hell out of the population and encouraged behaviors that slow the spread of the disease. Their numbers have been in decline like China, but without the draconian measures.

Of course, SK ramped up their testing very early because they have a functioning govt

The reason the SK numbers are in decline, or so I've heard, is that as they perform more tests, they are finding more and more people who have been or were running around with the disease with mild symptoms or who were close to if not entirely asymptomatic. Each time they discover one of these, the overall death rate drops.

I dunno, this widespread panic and places shutting down seems out of all proportion to me.

Yes, they perform more tests and so their assessment of the death rate is more accurate than other places (regression to the mean), but that doesn't explain the decrease in new cases. The numbers I saw had their new cases dropping steadily. That seems to be the result of people using common sense precautions and widespread testing that can identify the sick and get them out of the general population spreading the disease.

Yes, and if I hear one more person say that China did a good job handling the disease I will probably scream. They knew very early about the outbreak and they hid it. That was a hugely critical time. They literally arrested journalists reporting on the outbreak and scrubbed the internet of anything they didn't want getting out. Then they instituted draconian measures, including bulldozing villages shut without proper access to food or medical care.

They did the exact opposite of what should be considered good. South Korea is the model, but Trump probably likes the way China did it because it will scratch his authoritarian itch.

I could go on about China's approach and why I think they chose the path they chose, but I won't. Suffice to say it involves a lack of empathy that runs through the chinese people and their desire to save face over everything else.
