WASHINGTON — The White House moved on Thursday to tighten control of coronavirus messaging by government health officials and scientists, directing them to clear all statements and public appearance with the office of Vice President Mike Pence, according to several officials familiar with the new approach.

President Trump announced Wednesday evening that Mr. Pence would coordinate the government’s response to the public health threat even as he played down the immediate danger from the virus that is spreading rapidly across the globe. Mr. Pence was scheduled to lead a meeting of the government’s coronavirus task force on Thursday.

Officials insist the goal is not to control the content of what subject-matter experts and other officials are saying, but to make sure their efforts are being coordinated, after days of confusion with various administration officials showing up on television.

They learned something watching Xi take a hit over this situation.

This is when we start to find out that he has no intention of ever dropping out and he's working with Trump to make sure the election goes to trump. Rich people band together when there's an existential threat to their money like Sanders.

Those are my two conspiracy theories. The Bloomsburg one is partly based on the fact that a lot of Russian money has been coming into NYC over the past two decades. Trump was one person who benefitted from that money. Hard to believe a smart billionaire like Bloomsburg didn't find a way to get some.

Also, Bloomsburg gives me the heebee-jeebies the same way that Trump always has. That's my gut and I like to give my gut some room in my thinking when it comes to judging people. I am weirdly right about people IRL, though I'm not sure how well that translates to people I have never really met.

I do concur with you that tinfoil hats are underused in fashion.

Mike Pence is going to be jettisoned before the election. When coronavirus goes through the US, Pence will get the blame and Trump just set him up as the fall guy. Nicky Haley will be the replacement in an effort to get more women to vote for Trump.

who's the manufacturer of that bus? that's a good bus. that bus has ran over more shit than all the tractor trailers combined driving the 80 through pennsylvania for the past 3+ years.

that bus won't break! i had that bus ready for the junkyard 2.5 years ago. maybe he's got a good mechanic, cause unfortunately it don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

say what you will about trump but that trump bus is an amazing piece of machinery.

azrider wrote:also don't believe the polls when it comes to a general election against trump. other than faux news and some radio stations, the news, media, and entertainment industry has done a fantastic job going all in anti-trump (granted most of it is well deserved) but they have shamed and ridiculed those who would vote for him or share some of his ideas. this ridicule may even go to friends, family, workplace or let's say even a message board where they may be called insignificant. these people have gone underground, there is a significant amount of individuals that will vote for trump who won't admit it to some random pollster anonymously over the phone for fear of embarrassment or backlash.

be very cautious of the numbers, because the same confidence that hillary had just minutes before voting began predicting a near landslide, will happen again. so if the polls say sanders may have a chance against trump, i hate to say it don't believe it. i wouldn't trust anything unless it was double digits.

even with all that being said... anyone but sanders, does beat trump. to lose to trump is quite an accomplishment actually.

The polls were off by their normal amount in 2016. State polls were a little worse than national which is also expected. 538 had Trump at like 28% on election day...not a crazy position to pull a win from. My guess is that he will be a bit higher in 2020.

The polls are likely not 8 points off in aggregate (when averaging them. one poll may very well be 8 points off). 538's final prediction had it Clinton + 3.7. Trump won by 0.7.

My insight is that Sanders, despite what everyone is saying, may be the candidate with the best shot at beating Donald Trump if he keeps topping these head to head polls in important states.

I'm sure that's your insight. That's not something you can pull from those poll numbers you quoted, though.

The 2016 election.

But keep mocking me just like you did last time around when I told you not only that Trump was going to win but how he was going to win. Or you can take my advice and get out of the bubble so you're not devastated when Trump wins again.

NPR interviewed Iranians about Coronavirus. One person cited the movie 'Contagion' as "proof" that the US unleashed the virus on China, then Iran. Conspiracy theories do not have borders. You do have to love a reference to an American movie to paint the 'Great Satan'.

Trump ain't winning shit if the market keeps plunging. This might be December 2018 and we may see a V-shaped recovery in the coming months...or this could be 2008-2009 with the stock market bottoming out this fall, 50%+ off of highs.
