new F&M poll for PA!

58% for cannibas legalization
75% support expanded background checks

38% approval rating for Trump
37% believe he deserves re-election
57% support impeachment inquiry

Taken together, half (52%) of registered voters are firmly supporting a change and a quarter (29%) are firmly supporting no change, leaving another quarter who are still deciding.

Democratic primary:
Biden 30
Warren 18
Sanders 12
Buttigieg 8
Other 9
None 8
Don't Know 16

Warren leads as 'second choice' with 27%, Sanders at 14%, Buttigeg at 10 and Biden at 9

the big difference in who you support appears to be your age. Under 35 is 37 for Warren and 33 for Sanders; Biden gets 37% of over 55
Biden also has 43% of the non-white vote, with only 8% for Warren, 5% for Sanders, 0% for Buttigeg, and 10% for other, with 34% at don't know. This is where the race will swing.

Favorability swings
Trump -22
Sanders -10
Harris -5 (26% don't know)
Warren -2 (10% don't know)
Biden +1
Buttigeg +8 (37% don't know)

1 in 3 might be a bit high, but I don't think by much. The testimony is only getting worse and is about to become public, which could ding him at least a little bit with GOP voters, though probably not too much. But GOP electeds with the exception of a few really do not like him, and if he continues unraveling and attacking the people he needs the most, there's a growing chance they'll hold hands and jump. Still more likely that most go with a 'this was troubling, but there's an election next year and we'll let the voters decide' line.

IDK. I think you are 100% correct about the blind, deaf and dumb never abandoning Trump but Nixon's public support eroded steadily over an 18-month period and cratered once he was ordered to release the tapes. Admittedly, Trump's approval rating is holding up way better than Nixon's did but things may chance once all this stuff starts going public.

Worst listen ever is the debate on the Hill this morning. Wonk city. Just throwing out bills HR this, HR that, etc. I am sure that most of them know whats going on, but certainly I do not. Finding something else as background noise.

JH, is this the political equivalent of assailing casual baseball fans with metrics?

I hope you guys are right. The environment is just so different now. Seems like any one of: the existence of Fox News, the greater vilification of mainstream journalism or internet misinformation is enough to keep the entrenched dug in. And those entrenched Trumpers are who's votes 40 or more senators need for reelection.

The elephant in the room is that many of the GOP members are infinitely more scared of a primary challenge from their right/fringe than they are a general election. I think we'll continue to see the GOP hold to Trump until the tide drastically turns, if ever.

I'm most interested in seeing how the vote in the Impeachment Inquiry Resolution turns out today. I'm hoping for some Republican votes. I do worry that it will be straight party line vote with a very small group of Democratic swing district defections.

i think someone summed up the 'strategy' which is very effective with the low-iq base these days. I'll try but fail to re-create it

first: he DEFINITELY didn't do that!
second: OK it may have SOUNDED like he did that, but that's not what he MEANT (of HE WAS JOKING)
third: OK, he may have did that, but it's not ILLEGAL!
fourth: OF COURSE HE DID THAT, IT'S WHAT WE ELECTED HIM TO DO

It would be pretty tough to ramp up a primary challenge to an incumbent at this point unless you've already amassed substantial assets, especially for most Senators.

You will know in 15 minutes, but I think it is unlikely that more the 2 vote for, but would expect none will go on record.
