Think Edwards is underperforming a bit - probably will land around 46%. Toss-up/Tilt D for the general rather than something closer to lean/likely Dem which was my prior coming into tonight if there was a runoff.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
The Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, has done a poor job. NOW HE IS IN A RUNOFF WITH A GREAT REPUBLICAN,
@EddieRispone. Thank you Louisiana! 66% down to 47% after I explained what a bad job the Governor was doing.

Of all the weird things about Trump, his need to lie blatantly about shit that doesn't matter one of the most fascinating. Like Edwards clearly wasn't at 66%, was never north of 50%, and claiming otherwise is dumb. He was in the mid to upper 40s, with a sizable chunk of undecideds, who were heavily GOP leaning considering there were two major GOP challengers and a Dem incumbent. Trump may have at the margins helped, but given how far Edwards landed from 50% (and how much of the vote was cast early) was not decisive in preventing a runoff. He could claim he forced there to be a runoff, and while I think that would be wrong, it's a borderline defensible claim (and a pretty good one to make!). Instead saying he went from 66% down to 47% is just ludicrous. I guess the target audience doesn't know or doesn't care.

Obviously there are bigger issues with this President and administration and whatnot. But it's so childish and dumb.

It’s worked for him his whole life so he’s never going to change, especially now that he lied, cheated and hustled his way to the Presidency.

According to the Washington Post, Gordon Sondland, who sought to reassure another Trump envoy that the president's withholding of military aid to Ukraine was not intended as a bargaining chip in exchange for an investigation into Joe Biden, is planning to testify that he's not sure Trump was being truthful. Sondland is set to appear before the House impeachment inquiry on Thursday.

The U.S. ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, intends to tell Congress this week that the content of a text message he wrote denying a quid pro quo with Ukraine was relayed to him directly by President Trump in a phone call.

GOP picked up a super majority in the Louisiana State Senate, and will have a good chance in the LA House in the runoffs

The turks have blocked the roads leading into the city where US forces are based. They’ve affectively got the US troops pinned down.

I wonder what accounts for the GOP’s gains?

Just a matter of the DNC choosing not to invest in these elections or is there more involved?

The voters preferring Republican candidates to Democratic ones

Picking up seats that have been voting GOP at the federal level for a few decades now, but still voting Dem for local offices

No different than Democrats picking up a bunch of state house districts in Montgomery and Delaware County that have been voting Dem for President for a while, but still were electing Republicans to state office.

So what do my fellow PA residents feel about the "Marsy's Law" constitutional amendment ballot question in the November polls?

On its face, it seems OK. But the ACLU and others have spoken out against it, saying the question itself is unconstitutional- since the PA constitution requires each change to be voted on individually. The singe yes/no question encompasses changes to "three different articles, eight different sections, and one schedule to the Pennsylvania constitution”.

I'm sorta leaning "no" right now, solely on procedural reasons. This precedent could allow other questions in the future where the uninformed electorate could vote things in with trojan horses.

We've got a ton of those ballot shenanigans down here in Florida. You're right to be suspicious, Bucky.

Generally, I favor the idea of ballot initiatives, but like anything else political, there are always going to be loopholes that can be exploited, and the system is open to potential abuses. But for issues such as legalization of marijuana and raising the minimum wage, it is a way for voters to to an end run around entrenched special interests that often thwart these kind of moves at the state legislature.

Of course, voters can do stupid stuff too. But if you spend any time paying attention to state legislatures, when it comes to stupid stuff, they exceed voter capacity.

Marsy's Law is a tough call for me. Seems fine on the surface but raises numerous questions for me upon deeper examination.

One of the biggest things is adding emotion to processes which should avoid it as much as possible.

The problem here has not been ballot initiatives, per se, which can be very useful. The bigger problem has been bundled initiatives, such as this one from last year:

Amendment 11, Property Rights; Removal of Obsolete Provision; Criminal Statutes, would revise the Constitution to remove some language, including a provision that stops “aliens ineligible for citizenship” from owning property and wording approving a high-speed rail system. It would also remove the state’s Savings Clause, which prohibits retroactively applying the amendment of a criminal statute to sentencing for a crime committed before the change, and clarify that repealing a criminal statute would not necessarily affect the prosecution of that crime committed previously.
