Just to be clear, because I wasn't, this is the State Dept. IG involved in the transfer of papers. I didn't realize the government now totaled 73 IGs altogether, including the DOJ one who was in the news for Comey and Trump wiretap investigations. As hawkalum says, he was nominated by Obama in 2013.

I'm not sure the partisan import of this news is fully clear at this point, though.

Yes, it is possible the purpose of the briefing was for the IG to express that Rudy is batshit crazy. That's not the read I get from the comments I am reading from the Dem pols present.

Hypothetically, if after Trump leaves office by whatever mechanism, he is tried and convicted of federal and/or state crimes and is sentenced to actual prison time, how would that work with respect to his Secret Service protection?

At worst he will get extended house arrest so, yes, he will still receive lifetime protection from the Secret Service. There is no way in hell he spends a single night in a jail cell.

he tweeted out a Briebart "poll" that has 98% of the respondents wanting Schiff to resign and be investigated. I think it was just low end graphics work, not really a poll.
