It is not in doubt that Schellenger charged White right?

I am going to preface this with the fact that I am not an expert in the matter. From what I had read, White got involved in an argument that he wasn’t a part of then Schellenger and another person with him possibly said racial slurs to him. Then Schellenger escalated it physically without weapons and then White pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

From my point of view, Schellenger didn’t deserve to die that night, and White wasn’t looking to kill anyone. White seemingly was initially acting in a capacity to defuse a situation and didn’t want to fight or harm Schellenger, but was kind of just standing up for someone else who was getting shit on unfairly.

In the end, I think the jury got it right, but I can understand why Schellenger‘s family is upset. He died in a stupid argument and the guy who killed him wasn’t even the guy he was in an argument with.

He pulled out his knife and was said to have said 'i don't want any trouble' and the guy charged him then.

extreme? that's relatively mild to some of the shit i see all the time on the road out here. does it really serve any purpose for racing or drifting or something... or is it just like "i'm a bruh, and proud of it."

It takes a principle of racing (especially drifting) and exaggerates it past the point of benefit.

The drive to and from work is pretty much 25 miles of pure clusterfuck. Tons of traffic, accidents, all sorts of crazy, idiotic stuff. It never really bothers me when I’m out there. I’m always relaxed despite all that stuff, and having had a couple close calls myself.

But lately, at night near when I’m drifting off to sleep, I’ll have these mini anxiety attacks (that’s probably too strong a term for it) where I’m sure I’m going to get into an accident the next day.

I’m guessing that’s probably my brain processing all the crazy stuff I saw and repressed on my drives that day. Weird.

I used to drive so much for work that I would dream about driving to work.

should've gotten manslaughter. you can't insert yourself into a fight with a knife (concealed weapon) and then claim to use it for self protection if the assailant isn't threatening and displaying the use of a similar weapon himself.

but ultimately i guess comes down to the "stand your ground" law in PA. not really in favor of those laws.

Feel like it's OK to brandish a knife trying to deter a fight from a larger human. Logic dictates that an unarmed person isn't going tonight an armed person, but /shruggie

that is almost a stand your ground kinda thing... first option should be to retreat. he had a chance, he didn't take it. if you choose then to defend yourself, it should be met with similar force then.

i am not a fan of stand your ground type laws outside your home. just my opinion. i think it gives those with weapons, who want to be tough guys now, carte blanche.

kind of curious... who carries weapons for their protection on the street here? i've had knives pulled on me twice and robbed at gunpoint. never carried a weapon, still don't. each of those times, they were more scared of me then i was of them, which honestly isn't a good situation for me.

Speaking of messing with people:

Every Saturday night for the past 6 or so weeks a group of 3-6 people have had a mini soccer game or kickaround in the alley/parking area behind my apartment at 2am...or maybe like 1:50 to 2:30 to 2:50. I'm not about to go confront 1. a large group of people, and especially ones that are big enough assholes to do this and drink/smoke/piss/scream at 2am in public. I've called 911 the last 4 weeks and I'm not sure if they actually show up or not. After I call, sometimes they go away fairly soon, sometimes it's a little later, but I'm not staring out the window to see what happens.

So 911, which may have had some effect, isn't proving an effective deterrent. Basically, even if it saves me 20 minutes of waking time at 2:30am, we're still up 30-45 minutes every week. Is there anything I can do? I emailed my local precicnt or whatever asking them to please just send someone every Saturday at 2am until they stop (if they have the resources of course) and they just didn't respond.

Honestly don't know what to do now except maybe beg the 911 operator to tell the cops to tell them to leave and to never do this again and tell them they'd be back to make sure (even if its a bluff). Wtf would you do here?

And I know that hopefully the problem will solve itself come winter but that's probably at least a month or two away and I assume they could start right back up in spring.
