It’s the same as any cause, pink ribbons, red ribbons, yellow bracelets, jigsaw pieces, and on and on. You can be cynical and and say it’s just brands cashing in (which it is) or you could look at it and think that so many major organizations are willing to support “pride” now which really actually does help further the acceptance and normalization of the glbt community. 10 years ago that wouldn’t have been the case. With the administration we have in the wh and the packing of the courts with conservative judges/justices progress is important, look at how states are attacking row v wade, gay marriage could be and probably is on their agenda as well. The fact that commercial enterprises are willing to sell out on pride is a good thing even if it’s for less than altruistic purposes. IMO
