that was already going to happen. it isnt like if tulsi gabbard had some incredible debate performance she would suddenly still be in it come iowa.

saying it has a prevailing influence vs zero influence isn't the same thing though. if these debates get some of the scrubs to drop then we'll be better for them. they provide some exposure for some people who could use it. they serve a purpose but they arent deciding the nominee.

They also concluded that gerrymandering is A-OK, though.

The Supreme Court sucks again.

Yup, final nail in the coffin for representative democracy in the US...until there is a liberal majority in the Supreme Court again and this, along with Citizens United, are overturned.

I already implied that! (That ruling was first).

It is bad and will lengthen republican holds over generally democratic states.

Could a Dem POTUS ban political gerrymandering of federal congressional districts through executive order?

No, they couldn't.

He/she probably could define what the process would look like to define districts, and make the process more bipartisan. I'll have to do some reading about this decision though.

Do political scientists have a solution to the problem of extreme gerrymandering, to the extent they see it as a problem?

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the argument that the federal courts do not have an interest in how Congressional maps can be drawn, where free and fair elections and access is clearly under the umbrella of federal oversight.

There are a few measures like the efficiency gap. You can also design programs to draw districts with rules in mind such as efficiency gap, equal district population, compactness, must have X majority minority districts etc.
