did he bring up ted being a wimp for pandering to Trump after what Trump said about Ted's wife and father? Wimp would be a bad choice of words, but it would be fair to question Ted's backbone because of it. Texans would respond to that, I think.

"To be honest, I'm surprised Ted wants Trump's support. I can guarantee you if someone attacked my family the way Trump attacked Ted's family, I wouldn't be falling all over myself to ask for their help or even want their endorsement. I have too much pride in myself and my family for that."

That quote is great and, frankly, should be dead on for any man.

I do not recall him engaging in any mud-slinging last night. Matthews tried a few times to get him to punch back at the schoolyard bullies but O'Rourke basically said he wasn't worried about what they were saying about him and was instead focused on Texas and doing what is right by its citizens. Sadly, I'm convinced Cruz will win easily because the times are what they are (I hope I am wrong).

you or moz have a link to any of these mailers? i'd be interested in seeing what they say.

Seems like it would be a tad late to get out mailers to combat it. What could be done to message against them beyond door to door?

TV ad on local news stations. If you can get one for Friday it will play the four days til and through the election

Politico has a piece about Mueller's subpoena of the Donald.

Or this is the penultimate step to redefining the term, Orange is the new black

Just curious....is anyone even aware of any (even laughable) arguable basis that the clear text of the 14th amendment could be abrogated by an exec order?

apparently an EO requires no justification. The process (as one of our lawyerly types explained a few pages back) is that the EO is issued, a district court say nuh-uh and it's put on hold awaiting the SCOTUS.

Donald tries to throw an EO to change the constitution. Full Stop. GOP leaders and legal scholars come out of the woodwork to try to walk him back. His response is, of course, that he knows more about the constitution then these people. Even if you think Paul Ryan is a trash pile, you have to think he has a very good understanding of how the constitution fits into legislation, and where the limits are.

Donald knows that he can't change the Constitution with an Ex Order but we aren't talking about Dems being bombed anymore.

Over in Connecticut a GOP candidate for state senate says that he had no idea that putting a Jewish guy gripping wads of cash and grinning might seem offensive.

Ryan told a Kentucky radio station Tuesday that "you cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order," following remarks from the President indicating that Trump believes he can do just that, though many legal scholars disagree.

On Wednesday, the President tweeted, "Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about! Our new Republican Majority will work on this, Closing the Immigration Loopholes and Securing our Border!"

Separately, a senior GOP aide defended Ryan when asked about Trump's tweet. "This is a great way to screw up the message a week before the election," this aide told CNN. "First the birthright comment itself and now attacking the top Republican in Congress who is trying to save our majority."

Philly Mag went to the Scott Wagner Diamond and Silk rally:
Diamond explained to the audience that she and her sister used to be Democrats but that they became Republicans once Donald Trump announced that he was running for office.

Or, in Diamond-speak (you have to imagine it with the kind of rhythm and meter that the daughter of a North Carolina televangelist couple would have):

“Just because you black / Doesn’t mean you have to vote Democrat.”

The almost exclusively white crowd laughed.

“We got off that Democrat plantation and we switched our party to Republican,” Diamond continued.

After Diamond and Silk got the crowd hyped up, they sat down with Wagner for a question-and-answer session, where they attempted to tackle issues like term limits for politicians, job creation, and the growing drug crisis.

“Kids need to hear that drugs are bad,” Wagner contributed sagaciously.

“We love you,” Wagner told Diamond and Silk in closing. “I know there are millions of Americans that follow you and love you. You tell the truth. You have an opinion. You’re beautiful ladies. What you’re doing, you’re going to do a lot for this country.”

he paid them $25,000

lawsuit around inmate mail policy:
Under the new mail protocol prisons confiscate all incoming legal mail and photocopy it. Prison officials give prisoners the photocopy of their correspondence and retain the original for 45 days. Under the plan, state prisons are tasked with hiring vendors to handle the new mail protocol, as well as destroy the correspondence after 45 days.

Plaintiffs in the lawsuits say the mail policy interferes with the ability of prisoners and lawyers to discuss legal matters confidentially.

this seems pretty obviously wrong
