At least in the late 90's early 00's it kind of was. I doubt they do it because of the cost. It was mainly a scare tactic that was seldom used except as a "special operation" touting highway safety usually during holiday travel. They used helicopters to record the speed and have about 4-6 troopers waiting on the on ramp of an interchange to get radioed from the eye in the sky, who to pull over. The worst part about this was they had the same set up towards the next interchange too for those who thought it was safe.

I think the cost of just sending up a copter was like 750 dollars an hour plus the additional officers on the ground. Once again that was 15-20 years ago.

Not a fan of heavy metal in general, BUT I've been listening to a ton of Black Sabbath lately, for the first time in many, many years. Mostly in the gym, as it helps to channel the DARK LORD while squatting and deadlifting.

Well actually in Virginia where I was seeing all the signs, it's neither:

Speed Limits Not Actually Enforced by Aircraft in Virginia: There are 425 highway signs in Virginia that proudly proclaim "Speed limit enforced by aircraft" and they're all lying.
