RIP, Smitty. A true legend and from everyone's account, an even better guy in person.

Eternal rest grant to Carl, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Very sad news. I never met Smitty but really admired his openness in telling us about his battle and the courageous way he fought it. All the comments above sum it up well - we lost a good one. Many condolences and blessings to his family.

RIP Smitty. Was an honor to be a little part of your world.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

As I'm sure most of you know, the Fred Hutchinson Center is a particularly apt beneficiary. Fred Hutchinson was a Seattle baseball legend, sadly taken by cancer at age 45. His brother, Bill, was a physician and researcher. After Fred's death, he created a center specifically to study cancer. I've submitted a donation, and I hope many of you will too.

I'll check with mrs. smitty and report back.

FWIW I shared this thread and the stickied thread with his sister, his brother-in-law (who some of you met at the game a couple years back), and mrs. smitty. I figured it would be nice to let them see the incredible impact he has had on our little community.

Really amazing obituary. I knew he was in the military but didn't know he was so decorated. Rest in Peace, Smitty.

Anybody planning on going this Saturday? I was but unfortunately I had a previously scheduled event Saturday afternoon move to the morning. I may need to settle for a donation.

I will be there, albeit arriving just after the scheduled start time of the service. The kid has lego club in Media which ends at 11:30, and we'll head straight up from there. Supposed to be 18 minutes.
