His ceiling is a couple dozen votes, and has a zero percent chance of being speaker even if the GOP holds the house. But yeah, might as well run against it because it is embarrassing and pathetic.

He and the rest of the Freedom Caucus don't care about the party's electoral fortunes. They'll be happier back in the minority anyway.

Approval polls are showing a little bit more gapping between approval/disapproval but it's not a solid trend and it's nothing like when the approval /disapproval gap was something like 20 points. Does hold off for a while Trump crowing about being more popular than Reagan/Clinton/Obama at this stage of his presidency, but there's no guarantee he won't reach that level at some time in the next few months, when all of those were reaching their lowest levels. Korea summit only seemed to give him the smallest of bumps, and while the Putin press fiasco had some effect, that was also small and may pass very quickly. Most people just seem to be entrenched either way, and whether it's the same ones who voted for him or not, 40% or so of Americans are just okay with the Donald whatever.
