Why do so many politicians and government employees use their personal emails for business? I don't think I've ever used my personal email account for work.

many are old and never learned how to use email, let alone use it properly. Comey's 57 so he really doesn't have much of an excuse. i'm starting to find all this email stuff hilarious; absolutely everyone from every party and political persuasion has been improperly handling emails.
edit: I refuse to even pull up my union email on a commonwealth PC. I don't know why anyone would do a similar sort of thing.

I can understand it more for people who spend a lot of time outside of government, have built up a professional network through personal communications channel, and then take a government role. These people will likely still communicate to you through those non-government channels. For Comey, he's a lifer, so I don't see a good excuse for that.

Hoping for some bombshells, but the charges seem pretty petty.

they're finally going after what amounts to a tax shelter in one of these fake charities. I hope they go after far more of them. rich people use them like candy to boost their profile/save money.

Don't disagree, but these foundations rarely get questioned, which is why it's easy to paint this as politically motivated. And most of the largest misappropriations cited have already been paid back (not before they they before brought to light, of course), lessening the potential for moral outrage and reducing the focus to to things like the stupid painting purchase. I have no doubt in the court of law people will be judged to have acted badly, though this will probably be drawn out and just result in some sort of restitution. In the court of public opinion I don't think it will have much legs, though.

I thought the main reason was they aren't allowed to have their government classified email account on a mobile device?

I'm more incredulous about the texting stuff. I mean I sometimes text my cop buddies when I hear them on something interesting but I'm extremely careful about what I ask or say because someday their text records may end up in court.

How fucking stupid are these people? This seems like FBI 101-type stuff.

On the Foundation stuff, it won't add up to a hill of beans; though I certainly hope he is held to account at some point. You can bet that this lawsuit eliminates any chance that Trump sits down with Mueller.

It gives prosecutors another shot at these clowns if Trump decides to pardon everyone and let it up to the courts. He can't pardon people for state crimes. I can't wait until Ivanka's full roll in all of this is revealed. Things have been quiet on her so far, probably because they know it will set Donald off, but she's been involved in a good chunk of this stuff. She worked on Trump Soho and has involvement in other projects across the globe. I think Trump Jr and Ivanka will both see prison time. With any luck, he'll be joining them.

also, do you think this charity thing will get authorities access to the Missouri charity that Greitens has used inappropriately? Once he accepted the charge about harming his gf, the investigation into his charity stopped, even though he seemed to commit a crime. I suspect there are other Missouri politicians involved and they made an agreement with him that got him off the hook for the more serious charges.

anyway, if Trump tried to influence Greitens through his charity, it may get prosecutors access to that MO charity, causing havoc for the MO GOP.

Sessions uses a bible passage as part of his justification for separation of families who cross the boarder, and like anyone abusing my faith for justification* he not only misappropriates words to justify actions (hey, Jeff lets go new testament with love one another, OK?) but manages to use the exact passage previously used to justify slavery.

*Sadly he is not alone, and there have been plenty of atrocities committed in the name of God. I am not naive, however I am disgusted over something that is to represent love.

Donald apparently talked to some of the press this morning. Two take always (I am sure there is a lot, as I only saw a clip):

1. The IG blew it because it does not clear him

2. Its the Dems fault that children are separated from families, he apparently said it 4 or 5 times.

@GOPChairwoman

Complacency is our enemy. Anyone that does not embrace the @realDonaldTrump agenda of making America great again will be making a mistake.

It is going to be absolutely incredible when this eventually blows up in their faces. Trump will ultimately be the death of the GOP.

Trump on Kim Jong-un, live on @foxandfriends and without any follow-up: “He speaks and his people sit to attention. I want my people to do the same.”

the GOP is simply an authoritarian party now. pretty bad to be in this position as a country and a democracy.
